First and foremost, I'm a family man.

I'm a husband and plan to be a father within the next few years. I want to be able to support my family without having to chase my tail for the rest of my life. I know so many people who have lived their whole lives moving from house to house because they've never been able to get out of the renting game.

If I can get 'set up' as early as possible (preparing for my future kids), then I will! If I was single and had no aspirations for family, then sure... I probably would have more stuff. But in the end, that's all it is... Stuff.

Yes, knowing that my family is well looked after makes me happy.

I agree with you pete, but i see so many people in theirs 30's and older that just waste there money on shit. I don't wanna pay someone else mortgage of forever, and i would like to think one day i'll get married and have some kids.

I understand the argument completely, but at 41, I've also seen young friends die without having really 'lived', and people live like they were here for eternity when they had terminal Cancer...A good friend of mine didn't see 40, had 2 kids (6 and 8 when he passed) and a wife... bet his kids know him better than any one of you blokes that had a Father that worked all his life so the family was 'set-up'...In really real life, you can't be set up. EVER. PERIOD. end rant...I got emotional. (RIP Richo, you were the best of friends) it's his anniversary in 4 days. Knew the bloke from Primary school...

Sorry to hear, Pete. That does really suck.

'Set up' doesn't particularly mean 'workaholic' though. I'm happy to just be comfortable.

And I guess living life to it's fullest is going to be different for everyone. I enjoy buying new toys as much as the next bloke but if I don't have them all, I won't feel like I'm missing out.

Josh if you buy a 3rd car, the second you moan about being poor, and not having a house blah blah, I'm going to get on a plane, and come punch you square in the nuts.

Yeah I know....... that is playing on my mind a lot too. I have noticed a decent little surplus in my account though over the last few weeks.. have only purchased one 6 pack in the time so as much as I hate to say it, I attribute it to that. If I was to do this... I wouldn't be keeping the corolla registered... would probably give it to my brother or something, in that case it would probably only end up costing me $150ish a month more than what shit does now (cancelling insurance on the rolla).... but anyways, I will think about it over time and not Zac on about it :D

Well I agree with you guys, not wanting to work forever and all the time and get nowhere... which is why started the mortgage early and hope to pay it off in less than 30 years.. lol.. but also, wife is a stay at home mum, so I'm the breadwinner, which I'm more than happy about, kind of an old school guy, where it is my job and duty to provide for my family.

Sure, we don't have the newest things, or go for expensive holidays, and yes, I try to be as cheap as I can and over think every purchase, but whatever we save goes into the mortgage and we know we are just that little bit closer to being debt free... then we can enjoy a little more, especially when our daughter is old enough to appreciate and enjoy it with us... :)

All that really happened Zac is that Mark wanted all his hard work to be a material object that joy can be gleaned from (horrible, short term glee though, the bad kind of good, you know, crappy joy) but Morgan decided he should stop enjoying single life and short term dreams and enter the oh so rewarding world of 30 year debt (so you can re-mortgage and buy another debt), I was trying to provide Morgan with some perspective, but he's heaps younger than me so his opinion is more valid.

I may have fudged a few details???

Work will set you free.

We're all different.

Human nature is to look over the neighbours fence.

I could never be happy with nothing, I've had nothing before, and I wasn't happy.

I would like to have nothing to lose, but that's not a reality.

I would like to disconnect the chord between my brain and my mouth, or perhaps just make it about 7.2 kilometres longer.

I wish when I write my dreams down half of them weren't things I've actually done and just thought I was dreaming.

I hope the only questions I ever ask are the ones I don't know the answer to.

Batteries.

I wonder if you stare at yourself for long enough you can see progress.

I wonder if the lucidity of the subconscious could ever be fully harnessed to allow people to feel the pain of others, and if so, could we share joy.

I think non prescription spectacles are for fuckwits.

I made thai green chicken curry for the first time in my life yesterday, as you all know because I asked about it on here, I finished it up this morning around 11am after the delivery came with more Coconut Milk. The object of my affection recently came into the kitchen with her lunch to heat up, it was thai green chicken curry, that she made last night, for the first time in her life.

This world we share is going unappreciated for the most part.
