Good luck "EJ25_in_a_gen1" either way, just do research outside of this forum also, talk to mechanics who actually deal with Subaru's. If they tell you its not worth doing - ITS NOT WORTH DOING, otherwise - go for it. Good luck!
thanks and yea it hard to find a good mechanice this days

And ams - c'mon man, don't be calling someones car an ass nugget. Even if you may think it is. Perhaps you should think about what that "ass nugget" means to somebody else. Because at the end of the day, thats all that matters right.
How about we get on with being a car forum and less like a teen's sleepover party, hey?
If you get offended by stuff said on the internet while asking other peoples opinions - grow the hell up, your not a 2 year old. (not aimed at anyone in particular)
Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

I have no idea what jerk-off owns an STi and can't out-drive a N/A Liberty.
i think you'd be quite rudely shocked by my car if you had any clue what you were talking about.
if you think your car is that much faster than mine prove it.
i'll probably lose, but it won't be as much as you think and you'd have to eat your words...

I'm more rudely shocked by the size of your ego than I am your car!
Do you want me to be impressed? Do you want me to buy you some nice bright colored flowers and a nice shiny medal to clip to your shirt so you can show all the boys in the car park?
PS. You should get some STi badges so all the boys know not to mess with you. Better still - get a drift wing.
Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

i said that i would probably lose, how does that mean i have a big ego...
all i'm trying to say is that you shouldn't put shit on my car when you haven't seen it, heard it, been in it or driven it...
i'm not sayin 'don't mess with me cos i'll kick your ass' i'm saying 'stfu cos you don't know what you're talking about'

Play nice guys, differing opinions aren't going to be resolved without concrete facts on what you're claiming.
Warnings are going to be handed out in a tic. Cool it everyone.
This started as a good base for some actual concrete and factual information to be provided to Tim, in an effort to assist him in deciding what he wants to do - or even for future readers of this thread.
Now, if you think putting newer heads on an older engine and rigging up and ECU is a good idea, sure you're welcome to say so but if you are defending that against someone who calls BS, provide some information in to it (NASIOC is a great resource).
If you're bagging the newer valve lift heads whatever they are, tell us why (hell, I am curious) and provide information.
Tristan and Paul you two need to keep it sane, people cop flack over everything they do although I would hope it would be less here given we all have a common interest. Things we do and decisions we make are not for everyone, nor are they made to please everyone so you need to accept that people are going to hate it, and think its a waste. Such is life!
Sick of sounding like a broken record so play nice kiddies! The warning function is less forgiving.

I'm confused. AVLS heads - YES OR NO?!?
my oppinion is that they make a difference, if you want good power and reasonable economy (i know mine isn't great but it's still not tuned properly, though one of my recent tanks was 12l/100km)
whether people want to listen to that (and i don't have any other data except for the fact that when my car was dynoed without avls it made 73awkw and with it it made 143awkw...) is up to them
he could probably still get the same performance of the avls heads (if not more) with lumpy cams. but then he wouldn't have the same low down economy that the avls offer. and as such, his car would be less streetable.
that's my oppinion, nothing more...
