Best to find it dripping on your driveway rather than blowing out an end tank while out and about having some fun - killing your engine as the vital cooling fluids go everywhere but where they need to be to cool your engine...

Well spotted, and preventative maintenance that’s worth the effort, as painful as it may be now.

Cheers

Yup. I suspect its been dripping for a while just never enough to drip off the rad support and would empty the overflow in a month or so. Did a fuel run on the weekend and after checking catch cans noticed the puddle. Never ran low on coolant so defs caught it at the right time

Ah mate, that’s so painful to see. I hope you and yours are ok!

What’s the plan from here, much structural damage from your assessment?

Rad support and the inner guard are bent, not sure about the front apron but ill be surprised if it isnt

Not bothered at all by a write off as i get the car and a payout, however RX shells are very very thin on the ground so i may do the unthinkable and downgrade to a Gen 3.... Will see what happens

Why does it have to be an RX shell? Why not a Gen2 wagon shell?

I do prefer the Gen3s for some reason, dont know why, just the styling I guess. Their headlight wiring setup is weird though, so there will be a difference there in a loom swap.

Cheers

Bennie

Theres one Gen2 wagon for sale in Vic - Kyabram to be exact: http://www.gumtree.c...s-ad/1276585628

And theres one or two Gen3 RX wagons for sale. All are under 2G.

RX has the turbo radiator support and all the body kit holes etc. 10000X easier to start with an RX

Wouldnt even attempt to put a gen 2 loom in a gen 3. Would be start again with a new loom job

Ah Rogie. Makes sense!

All the best with the hunt! (There’s a green Gen3 RX on gumtree in Melbs somewhere for $1800 from memory)

No chance of it being repaired?

That's a shit go Barb's! Agree that gen 2 is nicer than gen 3, and that's coming from a gen3 man. Unmolested gen2s are getting harder to come by though. Gen2 loom into Gen3 is not easy, whereas gen3 loom into gen2 is easier. More electronics in a gen3 that's harder to use a gen2 loom with.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Noooo!

Super sad to see mate. Even though I have a soft spot for the Gen 3 ugly duckling, it’d suck to not be able to use all the sweet little gen 2 goodies you’ve collected.

Let me know if you do end up going gen 3, I haven’t gotten around to selling a single bit of mine since parting it out.

Only real issue for insurance will likely be trying to get a hold of those jap style bits like the headlight. I'd be surprised if it wasn't repaired to be honest. If you've got it insured for an agreed value and not market....

Cheers,
Ben

Is insured for agreed value, but its not heaps. The whole front end apart from the guard is JDM, and listed as such so has to be replaced or at least paid out. Time will tell. Still waiting for the assessment

Yea, agreed is the best way when having nice toys like this. That way you get paid out a half decent amount should it be deemed too expensive, and if not, they at least replace it like for like.

How’s a chopped GTB going to help you? Don’t you already have all the good bits to make a turbo wagon??

I’m sure there’s method to your madness, just I don’t understand it but I’m keen to learn!

Hope you’re doing well knowing there are active cases in your community mate ;)
