Dude. A gen3 ECU wont work in your car. Not even with a re-pin. In order for it to work you need a new crank angle sensor, cam angle sensor, both the gen3 timing gears and all the wiring to suit. It's easier to get a piggy back ECU like Haltech's Interceptor or Chiptorques Exede. Both go for around $1000. Also, how is a H6 not relevant? It's never been released in Australia with any form of forced induction. Which means its NA! In regards to TTsubaru's post earlier. I *might have a look at a DOHC 2.2, wont be any time soon. But I'll get to it if only for shits and giggles.

Yeah, now there's a massive waste of money. I would have to use an aftermarket ECU. I could put a whole motor together for $1000, no way I'm going to spend double that on an ECU.

Now there's a good thread subject, ECU's including replacement and piggy back, now that is something that will make a difference to a NA car as well as a turbo car. Paul

I should have an adjustable FPR turn up soon, so I'm going to see what taking out some of the fuel will do (minor adjustments). I know for a fact the AFR's get as rich as 11.1:1 at 6500rpm. So it will be hard to lean it out too far. An Exedy or Interceptor could be on the cards too. We'll see how this first step goes.

Subies run waaaaay tooooo rich, 12.5:1 FTW, idiot proof is what they are, so when people who don't know what they are doing wind up the boost the thing doesn't go pop...............straight away anyway.... I wouldn't mind chucking a haltech over my STi ecu, would be interesting. Paul

The inteceptor is great, because it basically alows the car to start and idle as per factory, as well as control everything else it would normally. But the added advantage of being able to adjust injector duty and timing is awesome. I'll certainly DIY a tune when/if i get one. The track car will be going full aftermarket ECU how ever.

Hey I remember this thread from way back on the old forum. In a nutshell, N/A Boxer engine is fun, reliable and powerful. But will never gain as much power as a WRX or STi. I'm getting an RS soon, I'm just taking this thing into the garage, saying exhaust, wheels, and a bit of love. Kitting it up and having it look like it's a nice cruisy Impreza, and I'll be happy. Once I'm turbo legal I'm turning to the dark side and importing a Euro turbo.....I'll come back to STi later. But my dream is to have one of those tiny, over powered Euro hatchbacks, with huge scoops and crazy styling. So the story is, if you got an N/A Soobie and you're happy good on you they're nice cars. If you got an N/A Soobie and want a WRX (like most P's) just hang in there, don't blow your money on rubbish POD's and CAI's, spend it on nights out and girlfriends. Then when you're ready buy your car already done for you (i.e STi, B4) and pay for the maintenance and gradual mods, use all that extra money on a house. Be happier in the end. Nick

So you can run it on 6psi with an rx fuel pump? :P

Yeah.....well....a bit.......there was like 3 freakin' pages. But I don't think it's worth really spending big money on your N/A Boxer. A little cash here and there will increase response and airways, but don't spend amounts that you would on a Turbo Boxer. And don't expect it to improve much, it's already near perfection. I'm all for a bit of port and polish, but that's the same with every engine, there's not many N/A EJ specific modifications that return good results as far as I know, though would be up for any ideas. I know you've explored a lot of them Paul, by the way, what happened to the EJ25 idea.......is it on the back burner whilst the wagon gets built? Nick

Everything is on the back burner at the moment. Now really mate, your just re-hashing whats already been discussed and kind of taking this thread off track (On topic, but not really contributing.) Have a good read of the thread and try some for yourself, then get back to us on what you think matey.

Nah just basically putting in my 2 cents on the issue. Will stick around to see what you guinea pigs do with these ECU's though. Nick
