Its called a Legacy everywhere else, it was re-badged for the Oz market for legal reasons, i cant remember what they were but i remember reading about it somewhere in another forum..
Yeah its because there's a charity here called "Legacy" that supports war veterans and families.
http://www.legacy.com.au/
"Legacy is a voluntary organisation of veterans, servicemen and women and other volunteers who share the ideals of Legacy who are dedicated to the care of the dependants of Australian Defence Force members, after the death of a spouse or parent during service, and to Australian and Allied families after operational service. We currently care for 115,000 widows and 1900 children and dependants throughout Australia."

Got a question:
When in 4th travelling at a tad under 60Km/h @ 2300-2400rpm I get what feels like little throttle surges with no throttle input from my foot. They are small but enough to be noticed - just not consistent.
Is this something anyone else has experienced? Is it a fault that has a remedy?
Any ideas/advice?
Notice it any other gears as well? Try experimenting in 3rd and 5th perhaps to see if you can apply small amounts of throttle and notice the same thing.
Does it happen straight away or after a while of driving?

No, only 4th.. I've tried getting the same revs in other gears and it doesn't do it.Notice it any other gears as well? Try experimenting in 3rd and 5th perhaps to see if you can apply small amounts of throttle and notice the same thing.
Pretty much whenever in 4th and slip a little under 60KM/H (2300-2400rpm).Does it happen straight away or after a while of driving?

After fitting it I find it has more noise to it that the original because the width of the housing for the bushes and steel cross sleeve is narrower by about 8mm.
Here is a pic - Original vs new (installed)

Do you think this is intentional to fit more types/badges of Subaru?
Would you suggest filling the gaps with some kind of hard plastic/nylon spacer??
Leave as is and put up with it feeling a little sloppy and a tad noisier?
The shift distance has decreased (bout 40%) so that's one objective achieved, however I've created another two!!

The ball to the pivot is slightly longer (<10mm), but from the pivot to the top of of the shifter is about 35mm-40mm shorter. How do they get the 'short' shift, by decreasing the distance from the ball to the pivot or a shorter distance from the pivot to the gear knob?

No, not at all.....Is the shift heavier?
I just want to know if it will feel tighter if I fill in those gaps....or will it restrict the movement too much and not engage the gears...
If I use washers it'll have to be a perfect fit so there isn't any metal on metal noise....

The steel cross sleeve/flange is protected by those bushings so yes, it doesn't make contact with the shifter itself.Should feel tighter.
Looking at the pics (never fitted one) the bushes in the lever have a flange that will prevent contact with the lever. The washers touching the outside piece should not be a problem.
Perhaps someone has encountered this before?
The sleeve fits snug between the shift rod arms on either side, but the old shifter used to conceal the steel sleeve and have the bushings touching the shift rod arms. This one is not wide enough which I believe gives the shifter more lateral play....

Here is a link to some fitting instructions (better product than the one I've got) for several Suby badges.
See the difference..
