Thanks Alex.
Hope you get your up and running quickly.
At least you've got someone who knows what they are doing installing it for you.
I just hope after everything mine actually runs.

Looking good! be interested to see the end result. really appreciate when people take the time to take photos and do this for us..
i know every engine i have worked on i plan to do it then end up getting dirty hands and never end up documenting it..

Really helpful for those who have not seen the insides of a block and just how easy it really is.
as long as you take your time and check check and double check, you should be fine... (that damn 10mm one has got me more than once lol)

Well I've been slack documenting everything as usual.
I didn't want to stuff around while I was torquing down the heads so I've completed that and am now getting close to an assembled engine.

Threw the cams in with some red goop.

Lubed up the cam seals.

Popped them in.

Had a couplesmall issues that I'll elaborate on later. Nothing a helicoil kit couldn't fix.

You should. It's not hard.
Just take your time. It's fun too.

Agreed.
Stock rebuilds are easy if you take your time and measure everything four times. Plenty of books out there to elaborate.

True. But when you get forged pistons that are 1mm wider at the skirt than the crown you start to ask questions.
The truth is that the service manuals are very specific (there are some very large discrepancies between models for torque specs), but you still have to know a bit about engines. I recommend people have a crack at it.
It doesn't cost that much to do it properly and the savings are definitely worth it. As long as it works that is Bahahaha.
All up the whole build has cost around $2900assuming you already had the motor to begin with. However I got the long block for $100(late model EJ255) and the heads for
$800(perfect nick). So all up $3800 including hyperflow sump($800), and STI 12pm oil pump($300 landed) new water pump, new gates timing kit with tensioner, Manley forged pistons and rods, reconditioned heads and faceed block halves.
I honestly couldn't see someone building this for less than $6000. Probably alot more.
So have a go.

Such an awesome tool. My kit has saved me a few times.

That sump looks huge. What volume does it hold?

Yea, i had a little trouble with the 6mm bolts stripping the thread out of the block. 1 cam cap and 1 waterpump. Really saved my bacon. $46.00 for 2 repairs is cheap and I have 8 left in the kit.
The sump has a capacity of 6 litres.

Hey Reece
Motor has run breifly and sounds alright, but I hope it stays together.
Tune is booked in for the 31st May. Tuesday week. Run in tune.
I haven't got any boost control for now, just wastegate pressure for run in.
I can't do much while my brother's bag of crap EVO9 is in the way.

Plated rear diff is in.
Straight cut box with plated front diff is in.

Only problem is how do I do the run in milage with a deregistered car with a roll cage.
More looking forward to Morgan Park and Lakeside than QR but anywhere will be fun.

Looking good man.

One question, what's the purpose of the phenloic spacers?
I've not seen them before.

Cheers,
Shazza
