Gave me another 8.5 k to spend on the engine .... Plus 1 less rego, 1 less insurance ..

Posted Image'ing sad for me.. I was nearly in tears.. But it happens..More cars in this world..

And im going to be so happy with the suby..

One of the main things that thru me was the suby community.. compared to the VW.. i made one real friend in the VW community in 3 years..

Well guys.. after dropping the car off at my tuners i recieved a quote to take the car up to the 300+kw mark i was asking for.. the total of the quote including the 6.5k engine rebuild came to a whopping total of 23.5k.....

After getting back up off the floor i started cutting apart the quote and chopping things off that i wanted cheaper.. I started with ordering a jim berry clutch and dropping the plans for E85..

after that i went about getting rid of the after market ECU and a bunch of other goodies.. Boost controler etc etc etc..

Now we have ordered some extractors for around the 1k mark.. But his exhaust from that back came in at around 1.8k... So im after some opinions on cheaper decent options ??

Would love a cheaper and proven option like the jim berry clutch.. that without hearing about it on here i would of had a 3k double plate exeady..

Cheers Again Vice

Should swing us the quote or some rough figures so we have something to play with.
Surely you can get a cheaper exhaust made up. $1800 is ridiculous!

Someone recently told me to stay away from AVO. Can't remember who it was, but you would be able to get a 3" stainless steel quality exhaust for way less than that, including a dump pipe!

I have a KLS 3" dump pipe, it is really good quality! Quite cheap too. ~$270 mark.

My advice here is to post up a copy of the list (without prices, preserve a bit of the tuners business) and see what the guys in the know say you need for that power level, and what you can safely drop. Once you have that list, then look at their pricing. See if its over the moon as compared to other shops. If it is, question them.

I suppose the only bugga is you have the car there now. Would have been better had they given you a quote before you handed your car to them. More time to look and think.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

If your in Victoria , IMO the best engine builders/tuners are springy motors , Phil Lowe just did the heads for my B4, mental!!!

Yep, agree about the cost of headers being a joke. Ive got Tomei replicas. Paid like 500 from memory. All tig welds don by robot. Absolutely beautiful. Work of art.

Ive got an exhaust from TCP. It was a gc8 one that was extended to suit the lib. Also had the hangers cut off and made shorter to tuck it up higher. Maybe call up some exhaust shops and get a few quotes just so you know what the going rate is.

As soon as i mentioned 300kw I was in trouble :)

Don't touch AVO.

Nugget turbos.

I've heard a few reports that the poorly casted exhaust housings are quite prone to cracking.

I loved my potato (GT2860RS).
