What's left?

Thermo fan install. Wiring tidy up and insulation. Intake pipe fabrication. Some tuning to get it drivable.

It sounded good, not as loud as my car.

The Vipec is great and Mark at Godzilla is a champ. Very impressed so far.

yeh... i didn't get a chance to hear your car... :P

so being hopeful for a thursday pickup isn't unreasonable???

you guys have done great work, i'm extremely impressed!!

No I don't think you could describe us as lazy. :) Getting the work done promptly and efficiently is essential in the modification game. Getting it wrong or having to rework costs us money. Organisation and prior research is what allows us to do this sort of work without going broke. Disappointing customers by taking forever does not help business either. Happy customers bring in more work, they are the best advertising you can get. And when people are willing to travel from Sydney to get the work done, timeframes are even more important. We will do some tuning work on it once it's all sorted so it is safe to drive to the dyno. I don't see thrusday being a problem at this stage.

Finished off a few things today and refitted the dash. Secured the ecu and modified the false floor plate to clear the ecu. Made the air intake, relocated the charcoal cannister replaced a seized thermostat and ran the engine for a few hours whilst fiddling with the ecu. Made up a simple run map using the narrow band 02 as a rough guide and took it for a drive to get some fuel. Drove fine, starts, idles, does all the stuff it should.

Thermo fan install.

Finished engine bay with air intake and cover.

Got the air gassed up this arv and just have to sort a couple of things out tomorrow and she is good to go to the dyno.

First reasonable number that sprang to mind. 180kw@flywheel - some in the drive line. 135-150kw@w is within reason.

180kw is aus tune...
190kw is jap tune...

i'd assume custom tune for 98RON with intake/exhaust should net me about 210kw...

hopefully about 160atw

don't aim too high. set yourself an easy target in your mind... that way if by chance it is higher you will be a lot happier.

better than saying it will be 160 and only turn out a mild 130-140!

With factory 3.0r tune I'd guess about 135 too Paul, but with aftermarket EM... time will tell!

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

TBH i don't really care about the number... even 140 is double what i could have expected from the ej22... it's more about how it drives than anything else...

I think the engine is capable of making 160atw but I don't know whether the tuner will tune it that agressively. EZ30's have a pretty crazy factory tune. My EZD will not even run on 92 octane. As in it pings so much any time you open the throttle you can hardly take off. The Vipec has the dual knock sensors wired in so I hope Mark uses plenty of timing in it. He seems very keen about the whole project and doing the tuning so I hope that reflects in the tune. In any case it is not going to put out autosalon numbers, EZ N/A's are about power everywhere and there never being a wrong gear to be in. This is where they show there worth over a turbo.

Hey Al, this is why I contemplated it before you offered some wise council.....along the lines of "leave your RS alone!!" ^_^

Why does it ping so badly?
Sounds really ordinary to drive by the sounds of that.

It'd make sense if you read the bit where it said "on 92 octane". On 95/98 octane it runs perfectly, pulls like a train and is tractable in any gear from walking pace. The point being that they are tuned on the limit of detonation from factory and therefore are difficult to improve on in that regard.
