you get the gear/diff ratios, rolling diameter etc and do the math to work out the torque multiplication, then work backwards from there.

Thats what I had assumed also. Graph looks much better. I reckon a good twin system will see more torque in the bottom and mid range.

Don't pay too much attention to that graph, only real way to measure an engines power/torque is on an engine dyno.

defect notice

i gots one!

fark there were lots of cops out tonight... 3 RBTs in the space of 20 minutes

drove past the first 2 and got called into the 3rd...

the one cop there was obviously checking everything on my car for defects (walking around it checking the tyres and stuff, he even asked me what came standard on the car) and what's "going on under that bonnet mate".

maybe i shouldn't have told him... and i don't think i have to tell them or open the bonnet unless they have a warrant... but it was my first dissertation with the authorites and i nerved out and told him...

me - "different engine"
cop1 - "turbo"
me - "no, NA h6"
cop1 -"OH... H6?? have you got an engineers report?"
me - "i'm in the process of getting one at the moment, emissions test is at the end of the month, that's all that is left to pass emissions"
cop1 - "still, no report means that man up there *point* will want to talk to you"
- drives up, cop1 follows -
cop2 - "alright mate, can you pop the bonnet please?"
me - "sure"
- open bonnet -
cop2 - "nice engine"
cop1 - "what's it out of"
cop2 - "another liberty"
me - "yeh"
cop2 - "the outback came with an 3 liter H6 in it"
cop1 - "didn't this come out with a 1.8 in it?"
me - "no, a 2.2"
cop1 - "still, that's more than 15% mate, you need a report"
me - "i'm getting one hopefully at the end of the month"
cop1 - "shouldn't be driving it without one"
me - "the RTA said it doesn't void the rego changing the engine"
cop1 - "no it doesn't, but you need an engineers report to drive it"
me - "oh..."
cop1 writes out defect notice
cop2 - "since you live around here we'll give you 30 minutes to drive home, but after that the registration is void and you can't drive it till you get the defect cleared"
me - "understood... have a nice night officer"
- end -

so yeh, probably shouldn't have even been driving it on a DD weekend...

but there was dinner and a girl involved...

spewin... goes to show that just because the RTA tell me that the change of engine doesn't void the registration doesn't mean the cops can't defect it... having said that, who here can say that their car is 100% defect proof?? not many i would guess...?

now i've got to talk to the RTA to see what the legality of driving it to and from testing stations and/or places to have work done on the car (exhaust or tune etc)

*waits for paul and/or alex to laugh/say "i told you so"/call me an idiot/insult me in some other way*

Tristan... I can't believe that you've been driving it around without an engineering certificate. Are you mental? No sympathy from me...

Bad luck mate. Never a good thing to hear about. Main thing is, you're OK, your car is OK and you've still got a license. Get everything sorted before risking it again like this - sure it's a minor set back but can turn nasty if you don't get it all sorted out from here.. Good luck with it all.

Bummer Tristan. Why the f**k did you say anything about the engine? And Dylan, I don't *really* think you're the best person to be lecturing him about "risking it" ;)

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

you're a deadset fcuking moron. not because you got caught. but for the fact that you knew what i was going to say, goes to show that you do indeed have some sort of insight. you knew you were doing the wrong thing. you know you would get pwnt. yet, you chose to drive a car without an engineers certificate. man, i seriously don't know if you're truly stupid, or down right irresponsible.

No sympathy here either. I've gotta say - you are massively lucky to still have a relatively in-tact licence after all that! Count your lucky stars man....that really is something! I hope you copped a root after taking the girl out in your illegal car during DD's, but thats another story altogether.... I know some might criticise you for telling the cops about your engine but honestly, I would've done the same. I believe honesty to the cops and a reasonable attitude can get you a long way in the right direction as opposed to if you had said everything was stock and they happened to check it anyway. So good on you for that :) On the topic of defects - I'm curious as to if you got your HID's fitted yet and if so, did the cops raise an eyebrow to it at all?

funny story with my HIDs... i've only got one fitted and the other one is a standard headlight, because one of the bulbs arrived damaged... and the cops didn't say anything and regarding driving it, i spoke to the RTA and they gave me the feeling that it was alright. the chick said "changing the engine doesn't void the registration, you should still be able to drive it" or something along those lines goes to show what i maybe i should have asked the police or got a second opinion or something, cos the woman at the RTA wasn't much help and seemed very unsure what she was talking about... but in my excitement i took it and ran with it... reading into it what i wanted i guess after all is said and done, i shouldn't have been driving it... i think in the back of my head i knew that... though even if i had a certificate for the engine i'm sure the police would have defected something else like the exhaust or the coilovers regarding getting it back on the road: i've been trying to pass emissions for 3 months now... and my tuner doesn't return any of my calls... but you're all right, i'm lucky that i walked away with my licence or with my car at all... and alex/paul... it's not hard for me to know what you're going to say because no matter what i do regarding anything to do with my car one or both of you guys has something "constructive" to say about it... "got my car painted" alex: "you're an idiot, who paints a stock GX bodykit?" paul: "congratulations, you now have a freshly painted nugget. it's still a nugget though" or something along those lines... it's not exactly a long bow to draw...
