funny story with my HIDs... i've only got one fitted and the other one is a standard headlight, because one of the bulbs arrived damaged... and the cops didn't say anything
and regarding driving it, i spoke to the RTA and they gave me the feeling that it was alright. the chick said "changing the engine doesn't void the registration, you should still be able to drive it" or something along those lines
goes to show what i maybe i should have asked the police or got a second opinion or something, cos the woman at the RTA wasn't much help and seemed very unsure what she was talking about... but in my excitement i took it and ran with it... reading into it what i wanted i guess
after all is said and done, i shouldn't have been driving it... i think in the back of my head i knew that... though even if i had a certificate for the engine i'm sure the police would have defected something else like the exhaust or the coilovers
regarding getting it back on the road: i've been trying to pass emissions for 3 months now... and my tuner doesn't return any of my calls...
but you're all right, i'm lucky that i walked away with my licence or with my car at all...
and alex/paul... it's not hard for me to know what you're going to say because no matter what i do regarding anything to do with my car one or both of you guys has something "constructive" to say about it...
"got my car painted"
alex: "you're an idiot, who paints a stock GX bodykit?"
paul: "congratulations, you now have a freshly painted nugget. it's still a nugget though"
or something along those lines...
it's not exactly a long bow to draw...
You've only got one HID installed??? Your car is so ghetto! Hahahaha...
Why would you think that some slappa from the RTA would know whether it's legal to drive your car on the roads? All they do is license and registration and as if she gives an arse whether you car is legal, it's not their responsibility. Of course changing the engine doesn't void the rego. Just as much as removing the engine doesn't void the rego, but it would still be illegal to push it to a top of a hill and drive it down to the bottom as if it were a Billy Cart. Just as much as strapping two massive oxygen cylinders to the side of the car (Mad Max stylez) doesn't void your rego, but it's still illegal...
You've only just now realised you want a second opinion? How many heads on here suggested that you get the engineering side of things sorted out before you drive it on the roads. Shit, if I remember correctly, it was suggested right at the beginning, before the car was even converted!
I can't believe that you have been "trying to pass emissions" for 3 months... What on earth is so wrong with your car that it can't be tuned properly? Why don't you just tune it to factory specs and be done with it instead of trying to chase power on an engine that doesn't have that much power??

it's been tuned 4 times now, each time has been better than the last... but it still doesn't pass... and i'm running 2 cats now...
at the moment i'm (still, after 2 weeks of calling him every second day) waiting for my tuner to get back to me...

I'm sure theres lots of other places with the right knowledge and equipment to tune your car properly

how much is this costing you every time? i'd be asking for my money back if your getting your tuner to pass it for emissions and its failing time and time again....
that's why i'm trying to get back onto the same tuner, if he isn't going to do it for free/minimal cost, then i'm gonna take my business elsewhere...
so far the tunes have been $650, $250 and $600... (ok, so it's actually been tuned 3 times, this next one will be the fourth)
the first two tunes were done in QLD by a guy who doesn't really tune NAs, so he tuned it like a turbo.
when i got it tuned down here by scott it was heaps better after, more power, smoother acceleration and better emissions/fuel economy (still only getting 15l/100km though)

Thats nice chris.
I'm sure your car could handle a 14second pass with minimal attention from the EPA too. Isn't life grand?
It is nice.. Life is grand indeed....

Multiple times in trying to get the car complied engineered and registered have yielded this.

Big mouthed n00b decides that taking un-engineered car on the street would be k3w1.

N00b gets pulled over by the 5-0.

N00b gets spared of what he deserved.
