13K, f**k that!
lol
ok, i sent AM an email about getting an engineers certificate... Al doesn't seem to think it's possible to get one in NSW with an aftermarket ECU, as they are apparently illegal here...
i'm going to research this a little more...
EDIT:
it seems that so long as it passes emissions tests and the ECU is locked after tuning, it should be legal...
so... yeh

edit again:
AHHH!!! i'm going to stop reading forums regarding this and call an engineering place...
now i'm reading that Aftermarket ECUs are not ADR approved and therefor fail...
maybe they just won't check it... or i'll play dumb and hope they don't notice that it's there...?
worst case is that this becomes a very expensive lesson/track car... *sniff*

I hope your father kills you.
HA!
I imagine that he won't be stoked when he finds out what his boy is spending so much money on!
Now, not to say that Tristan shouldn't do the conversion, but if I were intersted in more power and had received a quote the size of his for a conversion, I'd be trading in my current ride and using the difference to upgrade to something that came standard with a turbo or an H6.... considering that I'd probably have about 20 grand to play with...
But hey, that's just me...

i know what it's like to have public opinion always against you yet for some stubborn reason i always push on against all odds and common sense.
most times when i get to the end i wish my stubbornness would piss off so i can see thru my own bullshit.
4 fark sake let it go.
let the dream die now while you still can before you get too deep.
promised myself i wasn't going to say anything from the start, guess i'm too stubborn not to hehe
Lay off the crack pipe

As soon as i mentioned 300kw I was in trouble

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.
It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Let him have his fun boys. You're all trying to save him money, we know that, he knows that, but he's not going to listen to you anyway so you could atleast be supportive!

got everything you need for a decent car
Paint the front mount black and put some black mesh infront of it, no one will ever know its secret then

and my dad doesn't care... he admits that he'd never do anything like this, but he is still mildly supportive...
and i know i can go get a big, fat, ugly gen4 with an H6 in it already... but 30k is really rather close to twice what i'd have what even if i did sell my car... i thought long and hard about this before i actually committed to anything (albeit, forgetting some important details, as you all know)... i really like my car, i think it's the best looking of the libertys and i don't really want an impreza as i don't like the hype that comes along with them... and if i was going to spend my (say) $20k on a different car... i'd probably want a honda... as, IMO, they are really the only japanese cars that go hard in NA form... and no, poop, i don't want a dunnydoor... i'd rather a falcon TBH... but it's a different driving experiance that i'm not really looking for... i prefer the lighter, go-kart like handling of my liberty...
at the end of the day, my car will look better (when i get it fixed up) and go harder than any lard-arsed gen4 NA would... and if i decide later "oh god, what did i do?? it's too slow!" then i can strap some twins on it and it'll go like the clappers...
i've been reading about people who are making 300kw+ reliably from these motors, with standard internals...
where's the support for someone trying something different and stepping away from the 'norm'??
just cos it's a subaru doesn't mean it needs to be turbo to be fast..
p.s. thanks everyone for trying to look out for me, and save me some money... but since when has modifying cars been a cheap hobby?
