You make some good, If uninformed points.

I was joking when i said get a Commo...

If you spend some coin on the motor, i,e:
Higher compression
Ported heads
Custom grind cams
valves/valve springs
good exhaust/intake (Looking into ITB's if you're really wanting to go balls out. Expensive but will really help with an NA)
I don't see why the EZ30 can't do 250kw@w in NA form. It'll have to rev pretty hard, but meh.

Cars are never cheap as you say, thus all the more reason to research and spend money wisely.

i won't be doing any 'hardcore' NA mods to it... as i may be putting boost into it at some point in the future...

intake, exhaust and tune... should be right for now... hoping for 210kw at the fly

You do realise your most probably going to get better results with a hardcore NA than a turbo charged EZ30? On less of a budget. Turbo charging an engine originally designed (From an internal component POV), will lead to disappointment. Disregard what the yankies do. They own cars for 1-2-3 years then sell them on. In that time they seldom look after them . Also the intrawebz can be full of sh!t too. Its my personal opinion that you will be far better off looking into the NA side of things.

Geez, you're going to learn a very expensive lesson here. 1) Your Gen2 is ugly. Sorry, but its truth. You should have started with a better platform. Ie RX/Bilstein/RS/GT. Its a hideous colour to boot. Metallic Poo. 2) I'll still chop your ass on a run through the hills. No matter what you do. I take it you haven't considered how much weight you're increasing beyond the front suspension? You're doomed for understeering. Give up now, and buy a Honda.

Spend a bit of coin on a respray and tidying it up, fit an RX kit even. Keep it mechanically A1 and you will have a tidy car with some go that should last you if you take care of it. Good luck with it all. :)

it will end up being cheaper for me to change any non-RX parts to RX or greater equivalent... then there is essentially no difference between my car and an RX, except that they left the factory with different badging...

I doubt the H6 will be lighter Tristan. One thing you may have in your advantage there is throttle response, and probably low end torque. I really think you fella's need to quit trying to discourage him. You're flogging a dead horse.

a guy in NZ had a gen 2 legacy gtb, replaced the twin turbo with an H6 and his car ended up being quite a few kilos lighter...

Alex the EZ30r is not significantly heaver than its 4 cylinder friends. Really.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

enough of the bullshit talk.. Get the motor running in the car first before chasing power. thus will be the hard part. From then start looking at some basic but effective mods. Exhaust, Port and polish the heads and CAI would be a great start. Enjoy it like that for a while so you get used to the way the car drives in the more weight in the front (think pulsar GTI-R) Replace your soft suspension and Brake's for something decent, WRX 4 pots, New struts, springs, sway bars, and replace EVERY bush. At this stage you should have a Gen2 which has the torque to have abit of fun with much bigger cars and the suspension to keep up with the WRX's Its never going to be a STI or EVO killer as its going in a different path. The car will be more of a touring car than a sports/performance racer

Easy enough to port heads while its in the car. Polishing is a waste of time. It doesn't make the air flow any better. If you need proof, look at a golf ball...
