Jdm reo on the left/aussie on on the right....as you can see i wouldnt even call the jdm one a crash bar
The little amount of space that you have can be seen here
Or you can go about it this way...cut into the crash bar and slide the cooler up into it...looks less illegal but still removes parts of the crash bar which is the main issue
Front mounts are awesome when you have the power to utiluze them, but just dont expect anything legal when fitting them unless you can not touch the crash bar and get it emmisions tested and engineered

How do the boys with FMIC go around without getting it engineered?

The vf34 is a great turbo, and itd make use of the fmic...its not needed though
A gd sti tmic or aftermarket core will more than suffice, if you can mod one to fit easily
But really if you want a fmic, fit one, make it stealth and run with the risk...just dont expect something legal

I dont know exactly but id say 200atw easy "with a good safe tune" and not abusing the thing

So just hope I don't get pulled over or have a crash? as I will get raped for not having it engineered ?
How do I go about with the RTA? do I call and tell them about the engine number change? This is the only side of it I don't understand at all.

As I am still kinda interested in a turbo bonnet.
Hi mate, congrats on the purchase.
You should put a thread in the "Wanted to buy" section for a rev A-C bonnet near your area.
Just put it out there and you might be suprised. I reckon there are many people here, like myself, that have one lying around.
If all else fails and you feel like driving up the Central Coast one weekend I have one you can have for $50.
Lick of paint, wack it on, welcome to awesomeness.

You need to go an AUVIS mechanic to get a change of details...they pretty much look over the car, check the engine number and send the info to the rta..then you get a new rego sticker with the new details
But thats not engineering though, its only to state that you have a new engine

I might have to take you up on that if all else fails. Is there a way to find out if its the right bonnet I need? like I know you can tell by the lights but is there a way to tell by the bonnet?

I figured as much, but I just meant if I do that do I still have an illegal car if I get pulled over as it doesn't have the engineering done for the engine? even if it has top mount?
Thanks heaps for the info as this part just really had me as I wasn't sure what im meant to do after its all finished.

Paint everything black and make it all look factory. Look at Alex's engine bay, A work of art. Thanks to bleck bits and quality work.

Not quite as anal as Alex's.....yet lol... But this is getting towards how stock you can make it look...slill havnt got the clamps blacked out, and ive got a black header tank yet to go in, a black strut brace and one day the intake mani will be blacked out too
This is all custom fab'd stainless = pricey...but worth it!! And dont paint the pipes, powdercoat them
And about the legality thing...lots of people run without engineering...is it legal? Thats an argument ive had before with people..every engineer ive spoken say no..but if youre not driving like a dick you "should" fly under the radar
At the minimum you need the change of details done for the new engine...than the rest is up to you

Stupid odd 34mm hose size from turbosmart! Why for you make a 34mm barb BOV and not make a hose to suit?

It takes a lot of time, refinement, research, and powdercoating to get things looking neat.
Happy to provide inspiration to people, and keep the love going
Matt - got a black hose now, no? If not, I think I have a little something (34mm springs to mind) in my favourite colour.

Thats why a lot of people avoid engineering. The prices are rediculously expensive. Track hire to do high speed lane change tests (In SA, they hire out Adelaide International Raceway), emissions tests, etc. Oh, and that price works on the theory that you actually pass all of the tests too... If you fail, come back and pay more sonny jim (not to mention it gets a defect sticker and you cant drive it in the mean time).
MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

The 11 points, 6 month suspension and $2500 fine he threatened me with was just his way of saying "i love your car!"
But i got away with nothing thanks to some smooth talking...and my engineering certificate as he wanted to defect me
I was shitting myself though as i thought i was a goner fo sho!
