You can get the same thing as the B4 look, but in black rather than silver - genuine parts in japan, no wraps. Have a look through import monster. If you want it looking identical as the 401, just wrap it in flat black vinyl. Getting a genuine 401 surround will be almost impossible. See pic. Sorry for the bad quality pic, was taken with my phone. Doesnt show the brushed look very well unfortunately.

Yeah I like that colour, but I think a more textured look from the vinyl would look good. I might just have to play around with it a bit and try different things to find the one I want.

Know of anyone selling 3 sets of dash surrounds? lol

Thats a brushed aluminium vinyl wrap. I can get it. Cars looking good mate! Cheers, Shazza

Do you have a guesstimate of how much some vinyl would cost? like enough to wrap all the plastic wood bits?

I was just thinking that I would like to see what it would look like if I did the dial surrounds in a blue carbon fibre look.

I may have just put a deposit down on a doner car to convert my RX to turbo, nothing as flash as a STi but it should make me happy for a while.

I found a 99 WRX in good condtion from Sydney, Its been written off from front end damage but has not affected the engine etc.

So yeah nothing to flash but the power upgrade should tide me over for awhile.

Just looking for info now on what I need to take from the WRX for the conversion. Im assuming I need a new exhaust made up and front sway bar. But can I use the sway bar from the WRX or will I need a B4 one?

So as promised here are some pics of the WRX. =) I don't know where to start lol.....

Looks like it might be getting some work done before it goes in as I just found out I won't be going for the B4 bonnet as its the Rev A-C Liberty =(

Would it go fine with a FMIC with all the rest being stock or would I be better off upgrading other parts to match with a FMIC?

I also decided to put the Stock WRX Rims on, what do you think?
Posted Image

I'm thinking I will keep them and sell the old ones as I was looking into price of new rubber and I am very happy about the fact I can buy really decent rubber way cheaper than the ship ones I bought for the 18's

Youll need a B4 one...i have one sitting around with bushes if you need one....and yeah youll need a new exhaust..if you were closer i have a staino tcpauto exhaust modified to suit my gen3 (3in to 2.5in diff back) itd just need the dump and a cat to suit as the dump is a twin scroll one

Why cant you use a b4 bonnet? They are soooo much easier to find in the a-c revision gen3's? My local has a heap of them

FMIC would be better, but not really needed for the stock bits youll be running really?

And honestly gen3's look crap without the bonnet scoop lol...they really complete the car

Is there much cutting needed to fit one? I don't mind cutting the front bar mainly the crush bar at the front.

Will be fun when finished!! :)

I was thinking if I go FMIC now it will save me later on, as I want to do more to it over time. Just wasn't sure if its a good idea with all stock other parts.

So a standard B4 exhast fits? but I would need a new dump pipe?

I do want the bonnet but I can't find one in my area, the best looking one I found is the other model and I think it would be better to go FMIC rather than get the front end of the new rev....

A fair bit of cutting to the front bar, and the crash bar needs most (pretty much all) of it removed as there aint much room in them

It will save you a bit getting it done now....if its done properly that is, though if you can mod a gd sti cooler to fit in they handle a crapload of power...more than that engine will put out anyways...and be legal still

No a std b4 exhaust had two dumps feeding into it? Ive got a modded impreza exhaust...aftermarket though, not oem

I had to get my de revision bonnet from melbourne...a heap of places around here have tonnes of a-c revision ones just piling up in steel and alloy

Yeah sorry miss read about the B4 exhaust.

Does it make it ilegal to cut away that much of the crash bar? Is there anyway to do it so its still legal?

Is there any chance you can put me onto one of these places? As I am still kinda interested in a turbo bonnet, I just thought what I want to do in the long run it may be better just to go front now.

Its illegal to cut away any part of the crash bar at all, its their for a very important reason.....a fmic to be "fully legal" also needs a epa emmisions reports done aswell...which is near on impossible to pass and then engineered....
its kinda the risk you take when running a front mount

You'll also need a cold air intake to suit the piping...and that front mount piping will have to be custom fabricated $$$$ unless you go dodgy ebay piping suited for the twin turbo (that is crap and requires removal of the foglights) as gen3's have the worst front end for a cooler due to the stupidly big crash bar and not much space for piping without hacking away the crash bar and the front bar

Front mount is better than top mount in ways, i went a custom fab'd one for my new turbo..but on my old turbo making 200atw it was pointless except for some flutterz.. as unless you step up to a decent turbo, you wont make much use of it for the moment, 230atw can be handled very comfortably on a decent TMIC with a good splitter and seal...

Just about anything you do to a car these days is illegal. Drill a hole to run a few extra wires through your firewall? Illegal. Molest the rear parcel shelf? Same thing. Its all about how much you can make it look stock. Doesnt matter if it is or not, if it looks like it is, and you dont drive like an f-wit, you will be left alone.
Take mine for example. Owned it for almost 6 years now, looks pretty much bolt stock. Has 80% more power than stock, and bucketloads more torque. Been pulled over once as a courtesy thing to let me know I had a blown tail light. No RBT, no looking over the car, just pulled up next to me and told me.

If you are that worried about it, buy a JDM crash bar, as they are supposed to be much thinner than the ADM ones. Get the job done right, and paint it black (as well as using black silicone joins, I see lots of people getting around with lovely black stealth ICs, just to have bright blue joiners in the front...)

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Well I really want a front mount as I know I will want to chase more power later on....(I already wanna upgrade turbo)
I would of thought you could buy a smaller core and not cut that much away? But im more worried when it gets registered with the new engine and engineered would be a proplem with the Front mount. How many people actually do this? Or do you just drive around without doing any of that and hope you don't get noticed?

I don't really know how that part works which is why I was thinking to just go top mount to get that stuff done, then go front.

I know the WRX front 4 pots are a bolt on item, but do you need to use the WRX brake lines? As I didn't think of this when I took them off for painting. So I cut them thinking I could use the RX lines.

You can just use your brake lines..better yet go goodridge braideds

Allpaws right, and its as i said its a risk you take running a fmic...if you bought a core so small you didnt have to cut the crash bar its be waayyy too small to do anything worth while

The jdm crash bar has no crash bar at all, they dont have the crash regs like we do.. ive got one on my car though....another risk you take

If youre engineering it i dont know how itll go...but the rego check for an engine swap itll fly through if done properly
