So for something like a ND4, just a cheap $20 ebay jobbie will do the trick?

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

Yeah, that'll be fine.

You can also make an adjustable ND by stacking a regular polariser with a circular polariser. Twist the circular for infinite steps

Going to be a long shot here, but anyone had any experience with the Blackmagic Cinema Pocket?

Looks like a decent bit of kit for sub $1k.

Sorry, haven't even played with a Cinema Pocket. But what about the larger Cinema Camera, I know it costsa fair bit more, but it takes EF mount lenses (which you already have?). The nicer m4/3 lenses to suit the Cinema Pocket can be quite costly which would cover the price difference in no time.

This looks like it's going to be a gamechanger. Sony may have to keep an eye on BM.

Yeah, had a look at the Cinema Camera EF too. $2249 from Videoguys in Melb.

Pretty good price, considering you're going to get a similar quality from a 5DM3 with Magic Lantern Firmware that you can shoot RAW video in.

That BM URSA looks epic, but at $6k+, well out of my price range + I wouldn't know what to do with half the features. And its the size of a small town.

Yeah both of those little BMs would be great bang for buck. Storage will be expensive but I guess that will be the case with whatever option you go with.

The USRA is excellent value considering just a few years ago we were buying Sony EX3s for $16k. But yes you would want to have a fair few paying gigs lined up - it's not really aimed at the hobbyist.

The new Star Wars is being filmed on Kodak 35mm film, rather then digitally this time around. The director is going to use props, rather then CGI as a preference. Pretty sweet.

They're using 2 custom blacked out Panavision Panaflex XL cameras, nicknamed "DeathStar" and Millenium Falcon" and shooting at 23.97fps. Should make for an epic look in cinema. Much like Taratinos films (Think Django Unchained / Kill Bill look)

$10k per week to rent.

Camera porn. That's epic Shaz!

I like when they go back to the old school - I wonder how much Kodak film stock is left because I recall them ceasing production of film last year.

The dark knight rises was shot on film. They even went as far as skipping the digital colour grading process and instead done in the old analogue process. It's an awesome movie to watch on bluray.

I was reading before that 1000ft of film will do 11mins shoot time.

This is what they're using.

That makes sense. Film is good for low light so Star wars being a dark movie wil suit it well.

That's going to be an awesome movie to watch - film grain #nofilter

I wasn't sure if this was the right thread to post in, or the GoPro thread, but I was wondering what OS and computer specs people are running to edit and playback GoPro footage without experiencing problems with choppy playback with GoPro's unique codec.

Atm I'm running WinXP (yes I know it's severely outdated but it does the job, thinking of Win7 more than likely) with a GeForce GT640 2g video card and 4g ram. I have a 2nd 4g ram stick but it's not being utilised at all due to the maximum ram requirements of XP.

I am planning on upgrading my OS to Win7 shortly if it will solve my problem. I'm thinking yes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I run a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 laptop.

Windows 8.1

i7 core

16GB RAM

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB GDDR5

1920x1080 HD screen

It handles HD videos super well and edits them with ease.

I use Adobe Premiere for editing.

I've got a crappy old PC to edit. I think its 8gb Ram, 3.2ghz processor, and a 1gb video card. Takes a while to edit, and render, but don't really have any issues with choppy video unless I'm using 1920x1080 @ 60fps.

I use Premiere for putting the video together, and After Effects for Color Correction / effects.
