Good install??

Wiring and air line clearly visible.

well a few other B4s I looked at had the boost gauge on the a pillar. Personally im happy about where it is...not in the middle of the steering wheel, not up high...

it covers the fuel gauge slightly and speedo to about 30kph.. doesnt bother me at all...

:)

looks subtle...

Not with the wires and vac hose showing it doesn't!

I think that is the point Mark was making.

Don't get me wrong it's a good spot for it and me likey!!!!

It would look a million times better if you drilled a hole in the cluster surround behind the guage and concealed the wiring though.

SORRY SACK!!!

END OF BOOST GUAGE MOUNTING THREAD.......MEOW..

Didn't think mounting would be such a big deal... anyway, it will fit somewhere so I can see it... like I said, it is good to see the VOD... I thought my car was a freak.. thing is, I can see the VOD, but I don't really feel it... no idea why... guess I don't play in that rev range enough...

Washed the car today, after getting windows tinted... got 28% on the windows and the guy did something darker on the rear window(20%-25%?)

Anyway, looks good... keeps out the heat, so I'm happy...

So.. drove to Parra yesterday in 40 degree heat... not fun... but tinted windows helped a lot...

Something weird happened though... I noticed the car wouldn't boost to 10 or 11psi anymore... it would top out at around 6psi, no matter what I did. I could usually realy 11psi in second gear, at around 4000rpm, but for the life of me, it just wasn't happening yesterday.

Car also seemed quite sluggish the whole drive yesterday, had the AC on but that wouldn't cause the car to feel so slow, would it?

Not sure what is going on, or if I should chalk it up to the heat or something, but maybe I have a new leak somewhere now... will have to investigate when I have the time, or see if it is boosting properly on not such a hot day...

THE HEAT, turbo cars hate the heat as air is not as dense at higher temperatures and therefor your turbo can not compress it as efficiently.

Haha.. yeah it was quite hot, so I was thinking that would have been the issue... and yeah, the Intercooler is not in good shape... so looking to get that replaced with a non-crappy one OEM one...

Thanks guys... I was worried it was another leak or another split hose... which it still could be, but I'll try boosting when the weather is cooler and see how I go first...

And no Rob... I like the twins... :)

Sounds like it went into LIMP mode mate. When the ECU detects serious knock it retards the timing and limits boost to 5-6psi to prevent further damage. It will eventually come good on its own accord or you can reset the ecu

Ahhhh... see... this is what I was thinking.. limp mode... because yesterday evening wasn't crazy hot, but it was still not boosting right...

I don't have the tools to reset the ecu, so I guess I'll just have to wait...

But I'll take it for a drive later today, or tomorrow, to see if the boost goes higher than 5-6psi... but yeah, you are pretty much spot on... it won't boost past maybe 6psi and yeah, seems limp...

There could have been some knocking due to the heat that it detected hey? Does that mean the engine is going to have a big end failure soon?

Zac, there is a thread on here somewhere giving you instructions to reset the ecu, you don't need any tools, just a few minutes of your time.

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

Cool... thanks.. will look for it...

Read up some stuff on Google about limp mode... so it is a failsafe because something went wrong... not good... I was sitting in traffic on a 40 degree day yesterday, so that might have been too hot for the car or something... I haven't heard any pinging, but if I do, what should I do?

Just baby the car when it's that hot outside. If you sit in traffic in that weather then put your foot down the secondary probably won't kick in until just before redline anyway

Yeah that is what I did... I put my foot down on the motor way as soon as the lane after the breakdown freed up... so went from 0 to 100 straight away after sitting in traffic for about 30min... hmmm...

Well, hope I didn't do any damage... car probably hates the heat as much as I do...

Will see how it goes this weekend, and if it is in limp mode, and will look out for any rattling... if not, then I'll reset the ecu and should be good again

lol, I drive mine around in QLD without getting knock in hot weather. But I just use my keen sense of intuition, and when the car feels heatsoaked/outside temp is over 35, don't drive with a leadfoot. Well I can but the rewards aren't as great and it just chews more fuel, as above, the secondary takes some effort to bring online. Hell even single turbo models suffer heat soak in hot weather. They aren't the ideal car for desert conditions (stock). In fact my cars been running better now that its warmed up... I bought it in hot weather too when we did the test drive (a 35 degree day), but nothing beats flooring it on a cold winters night.
