I could imagine you can still keep most of them?

A lot of people I know who have left companies, keep their contacts. :)

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Morning

Hello all.

I am dilemma.

Do I;

  • Take a payrise/new job title but stay stressed, long hours (12+ at least a few times a week) and lots more on-call.
  • Take a pay cut (~$4k'ish) and go to a quieter place, local govt job, 9 day fortnight and less stress, no on call etc.
Help.

Take the less stress job Alex while you have this option. If you decide to ramp up your career later on you may not get this chance and besides, $4k is really not enough to notice in your pocket each week.
I started working full time at the beginning of last year after working 4 day a week for the previous 7 years, the money far better now but I would still prefer part time if I had the choice, I was a LOT less stressed.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Morning chaps.

Alex, hit them up to match what you're currently on, and take the new job. $4k isn't much. If you're as good as you say you are, I'm sure they will match it. There is ALWAYS room to move in negotiating salary.

I reckon all of this! exactly! $4k isn't shit compared to 2 hours travel a day! man I would take a $10K pay cut to save 2 hours a day and I mean that.

Yeah Alex, I agree with everyone else on here..

The Paycut isn't huge, and less stress is always good... and in IT, you can always find contacts no matter where you are... and there is always LinkedIn... contacts of contacts? Lol!

I have to say I'd take a paycut if it meant I could work closer to home... travelling 3 hours a day on public transport for work for the last 8 years takes its toll...

Now that you and Rach are earning good money you can adopt me so that I don't need to work anymore. I can just stay at home, do a bit of cleaning.. play with Keira for a bit and get drunk.

3 hours a day, I honestly don't understand this.. I wouldn't consider a job if it required more than 20 mins each way travel and even that is a lot I think. (I currently have about 15 mins)

Tell me about it dude... sux for me that I live in way out west Sydney and have to work in the city... I would move closer in, but then I'd have to rent an apartment or something, and not fun raising a kid in a place without a yard... plus, people closer into the city piss me off... and wife loves our new house too much to leave.. but she doesn't like the location too much anymore... in the 'riff, if she goes out anywhere with baby, she gets mistaken as a single mum on a benefit, since most people here are

As I mentioned... keep in touch with them on LinkedIn or something... I still talk to all my old friends from my old work a year ago... :)
