I think you might be getting some misinformation about Brisbane mate

That is a possibility, which is why I was planning on taking the family there in Aug to check Brisbane out and see if we like it... if not, we will look elsewhere...

Brisbane is a shit hole and will be for a long broke arse time, resources will prop them up and if libs get in it will accelerate their recovery I guess. Still. Shithole

I know they have lib. State gov. But until they are federal qld can't take full advantage of their resource boom.

Brisbane seems like more of a city than Perth, but it is pretty damn laid back and small compared to Sydney or Melbourne.

 

Also if you like beaches... you probably will get fed up with having to travel to Sunshine/Gold Coast to go to the beach :P  Unless you want to head to stradbroke Island,

That is kind of what we are looking for. Somewhere that is a still a city, even it is small. Not wanting the rush that is in Sydney or Melb, and the wife thinks Melb is too cold, which is why she is thinking Brisbane would be better, plus, it seems to be better laid out than Sydney, such that you can buy a decent house within 25km of the CBD for about $400k

Places I was looking at in Brisbane, newly constructed is about $400k and 20km to the CBD, so that could be like 30min on public transport... while in Sydney I travel 1.5hours door to door one way for work... and living in the 'riff
