Thats cool. Wish mine had a cool story. :(

As for my JDM documents Mr Freeman, I saw them before I bought the car and now they're not in the car after purchase. They said they should be but must have been misplaced and now they can't find them. Bummer.

Mind blown! Amazing how things come around!

Nice to meet you Dave! This is my second GT-B (previous was a Gen2). Must say, since you passed it on in Australia it hasn't been very well looked after. I think there have been 2 owners here since you brought it in. I bought it off a young bloke in Sutherland shire who looked barely old enough to drive. I think it was his booze bus for his mates on the weekends!

The car was rough when i bought it, pics at the start of the thread are how it was. Those wheels are handpainted by brush! The grille was rattle canned black, along with the roof rack caps and the bonnet scoop. The paint on the roof is on it's last legs too. I don't think he was very mechanically minded either as it wasn't running to it's full potential. Wheels were all buckled and couldn't be saved, tyres were bald as.

Fear not, since i have had it, it's come a long way! I'll have to post some updated photos for you!

Edit: I do have all the original paperwork with me! Glad it wasn't thrown out by previous numptys.

Cool stuff Jimbo. It sounds like you got in before it was too late.

Shame about those wheels though. WTF was he thinking? and the rattle can grill? compare it to the grille in the pics on my dropbox - all gunmetal.

I will be following this thread to watch the restoration as it happens.

I dont think the Subaru receipts are translated so if you ever feel curious about what work had been done - just say the word.

Ive also got the letter from Nishiuchi - translated into english. i can forward it to you in a PM.

You did well to end up with a BH5. In my opinion, it represents the very top of the food chain in Legacy heritage for a long list of reasons - of course I am biased.

When I looked into importing a few yrs ago, cars from japan were known to have lower ks, than say, kiwi cars because the Japanese cars seemed to stay in the cities, travelled less.

From my experience with importing, you cannot simply own (backdate ownership?) a car for a yr and then import it.
From the date of purchase, I had to prove,
The car was mine,
was registered and roadworthy,
was garaged at or near my address,
I had a license to drive it (in that country),
I hadn't left the country for more than 1-2months (forgotten how many days)
And, from memory you cannot import another car for another 2 or 5yrs (both numbers ring a bell)

So, this could be the reason behind the well documentation of services etc.

Never importing again, I'm not sure how people would regularly do it. Such a head fork haha

Spot on Bumpty. This is precisely why all the documentation is there. The government makes it impossible to simply purchase cars by proxy for 12 months and then import one every year.

Personal imports are prohibitively difficult and expensive to complete even once.

Here is a link to some pics of the car before I brought it back - https://www.dropbox....vDg3is6U225Qn-a

That is so cool seeing pics of this very car in Japland. I love seeing car histories like these.

Thanks for signing up Dave :)

Wing is epic!

Needs the spats fitted or bumper limps to match imo :)

Working on it Cam. But i can't decide to have the spats colour coded or just spray 'em black. Rear bumper apron would be rad too.

Really need to get/borrow a better camera... at least the photo editor makes me look like a pro

New floor mats came in, i put them in and wow, makes the interior look and feel so much cleaner. New monsoon to go on tomorrow, thanks to Mark and maybe the side spats if i get time between putting my new RS30 1:24 together :)
