Spare shell + large parts bin of multiple hoarders + mates = racecar

Originally the plan was to use my old GX, but it was a bit too nice to take off the road and "ruin" so enter shitbox RX 2 :D. This one was bought by Joss for parts but fits the bill nicely for a track hack: no use, smashed up, blown head gaskets and already in parts.

Heres some picks of the work so far. We all love a mad build thread so i hope to get loads of photos for us all

First off, the car. Its a gen 2 bilstein sedan. Has a lot of scatches paint fade and is filthy. So perfect for racecar

ooooooh

Today we were planning on stripping it out more and hacking out the guards for a widebody cos why not, but decided to pull the engine as it was a better use of time seeing as we had 5 people and a whole day. It went something like this:

We needed something to support the gearbag; enter old office chair with the seat removed. Perfect tool for the job, patent pending

Also works sweet as a regular axle stand and to change light bulbs in a garage

Safety second

We decided to pull the engine and box out in one go as torque converter bolts are a cubt. This turned out to be a pain in the ass as the sump on the gearbox kept snagging the crossmember etc. forking autos

We finsihed the day with the box and engine upright against the wall in Tys garage and a shell ready for some kind of boost

Also this fell out of the water pump when we got the engine out and tilted it forward. God only knows....

This project is 100% for fun. So if you could say "because racecar" were doing it. Open dump pipe, headlight turbo intake, widebody, stripped interior are all on the cards. Im also campaigning to somehow get the turbo outside the bonnet, highmount style

Its gonna be mad  :drinks:

Nice. I have a B4 inlet manifold complete with 550cc injectors I'll donate to this...

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

He didn't even show up to help Adam, decided he needed to take his kids to sport...

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Hahaha mad build, looks like multiple funs were had.

If I could suggest two things:

  • If you are going to fling it around a track, check the rules. (open pipes may upset the scrutineers)
  • INVEST IN SOME JACK STANDS! (scissor jacks and bricks are dodgy as fk)

edit: Adam beat me to it!!!

Following this thread with interest. :)

Typically the rules state 95db at 30m whilst on song...most places have db metres set at certain points and if they are triggered you get a red flag and a chance to shut it up

2nd time its triggered youre kicked off

Turbos do shut the exhaust up a lot though ;)

Hahaha you just reminded me of something from 20 odd years ago....

A mate and I were at Philip Island on a track day, I'm in the Falcon coupe and he's in his 8.0l fuel injected Torana.

Being a 479 cubic in V8, it was running a dual 3" exhaust and at 6000+rpm the mufflers would struggle to shut it up. Anyway, after a handful of laps he cops a red flag for noise so we looked at the car and discovered one of the hand built mufflers has blown open along the weld. Knowing he won't be allowed on the track unless we quieten it down we come up with a fix. I go over to the canteen and ask if they have a large tin, they hand me an empty large catering fruit tin so I ask them to cut the bottom out of it to make a cylinder. We cut down the side of the tin and I drove the Falcon over it to flatten it out. Then we got under the car and bent it to the shape of the muffler (mufflers looked like overgrown shoe boxes!) covered the split and tied it on with wire. It held and we continued the day.

BTW that thing freakin hauls serious arse. At the time it was nearly 700Hp and made stupid amounts of torque.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Is this thing going to be a proper track car or just something that's been built for some fun?

Sweet. I really hope I get a job that enables me to come down and help with this sort of stuff. Epic fun.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.
