You have probably just missed a bolt or 2 which are holding it in, some of them are pretty well hidden.

Take off the rubber firewall gaskets around the heater hoses, it gives you more room to move.

When it's got all bolts/nuts off, you tilt it forward to get it off those top mounting bolts, then pull up and out diagonally.

GC8 and SF5 have the same one, I'll go have a look in the shed and make sure there are no mounting bolts on the back. There is a rear mounting bolt on the gd wrx heater box, but I'm reasonably sure there isn't on this one.

So there are more bolts than the service manual says? I'll keep taking a look

I've taken off those gaskets around the heater hoses, I'll try that method of tilting it forward.

Got it free!

For those who are wondering how I did it, you basically pull the heater box until the three bolt holes are free from the threads, then reach your hand underneath and try to push it up and pull the heater box away from the frame!

But sad news....

I'll be putting this build on hiatus, until I can afford to buy a halfcut for it. Due to my engagement and uni starting again, all savings will be going to the wedding and until that goal is met, I cannot save anything for this car.

I've been discussing with people about going TT and even collecting bits along the way so I could keep the build going but mentally I've put my foot down.

I need a halfcut

and the more I work on the car, the more I keep telling myself 'Let's just get bits for it or get a TT halfcut'

So for now, its on a pause till I can afford the halfcut :)

Remember when I said the build was hiatus?

Well I lied hahaha
A baby is on the way!

Missus has allowed me to use the wedding fund to get the car done asap.

Talking to an importer friend on getting a wrx halfcut asap!

This build is happening!

I've contracted aids.

The Legacy B4 or GTB TT auto makes for a nice ride for everyday driving and enough power and torque to get you into trouble. The TT works really well with the sports shift auto. Make sure you get the GTB rear harness and fuel pump controller if you go down the TT path as it makes things so much easier.

I wont be able to get the rear harness but I've been told that the fuel pump controller of the H6 should be adequate enough.

Now heres a question.

The Engine was mated to a manual gearbox. I'm sourcing a torque converter and flexplate for the box.
The H6 came with the exact same gearbox so can I use the flex plate thats on the H6 on the TT engine? I'm assuming you can since any EJ gearbox can mate to the H6 and the H6 auto gearbox is the same as all other auto subies

Dunno about that one. Bolt it up on the ground and see I guess. I know there can be differences between manual and auto starter motors.

If theres no starter that comes with the box, I'll just use the one i already have :)

I'm fairly sure that won't work -- pretty sure TT's have a different starter to clear the primary dump.

The way to resolve these sorts of issues is to look into a parts catalogue.

Either partsouq, or http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/

just dig around there and pull the part # for an auto TT, manual TT, auto H6 and see if they differ.

I cannot thank you enough duncan! The parts arnt the same but I can get one in NZ if I dont get one with the box

But good news! The flexplate/plate-drive/flywheel is the same on the EZ30 than any EJ engine so I can reuse that :)

Update: my importer friend is sourcing one

Found this on a jap parts store.

12230 looks like its only for EZ30D engines which means its probably on the engine, I'm assuming it doesn't carry over to the EJ20TT or any EJ20 for that matter and I can just stick everything else into the new engine

Yes that additional part is the reluctor ring for the crank sensor on EZ engines.
