Looking at buying something in the next few weeks in the size of 225 40 r18

Looking to spend around $1000 give or take a few hundred for all 4 fitted and balanced.

Potenza RE-11's of tirerack seem good, my Mate is running them on his pigsti and takes roundabouts 20km/h faster then he did with potenza 070's but at ~$1300 posted, plus fitting they are a little on the pricey side.

Their is some toyo RA-1's on eBay for $900 deleivered, but are they road legal?

Toyo R1R's are a bit over $1000 delivered.

Apparently advan make a decent tyre? And some kind of hancook?

I have a feeling the Hankook RS2 is NLA.

You may be able to get some RS3's for under a grand if you hunt around.

I would always look at Japenese made tyres first, followed by Korean.

It will be a cold day in hell if you see me driving on any Bridgestone,or Pirelli for that matter, tyres. :P

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I'm running RS2's.
Possibly the best tyres I've ever had but the compound wouldn't want to be any harder. The old Yokohama 509 and Toyo 600F3's were good too,but these are now considered historic tyres. :P

I've just never liked Bridgestone. Maybe it's just me but I've always thought the compound seemed a little hard, as if tyre life was placed above grip and the price was always on the dear side IMO.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Im running RE-11's now.. dear god do they grip like shit to a blanket!
even surprisingly in the wet they hold good.. but word of warning.. they let loose quickly when they do!
unlike my old Toyo T1R's (which are still my favorite tyre i might add) that would squeel and let go slowly and more linear.. the RE-11's have shitload of grip then SNAP your sideways!

Oh and they are noisy!

and yes jase.. they are quite hard! Treadwear is still like 240

Hey guys, I know ku31s aren't UHP tyres, but I have a question. I took my gold rims off the sti to a tyre shop to get them rebalanced as a wheel weight had been pushed 6 inches around the rim and then fallen off (not sure how). I thought that was the reason for the car vibrating. However the tyre shop just called me and said the tread is separating from the tyre...what causes this? I have had ku31s before and never had a problem.

Any insight would be helpful.
Cheers, Jesse

Hey Jesse, delaminating is the term.
Sometimes it just happens, can be a factory issue or too much heat in them at some stage.
KU36's from option1 garage can be had for fair price.

Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

Cheers Frank. I just got a pair of second hand ones for the moment. Might get some for the liberty though.

I dont know if my word would mean much here considering i dont know what "UHP" stands for, but i and a few friends have Federal 595 RS-R's on our cars and they stick very well in the dry and i havnt had any issues in the wet either, but then i have no boost either :P

EDIT: Dont worry about informing me i figured it out, and i think my comment belongs here :)

Time for new tyres.

KU31s don't have the correct load rating
KU39s have the right rating but are just a tad to expensive.

I've budgeted $1k for 4 tyres fitted, balanced and aligned.

Bob Jane recommended Falken FK452 but my previous experience with Falkens aren't too good.

Preferable size is 225/45/18 or 235/45/18.

Is my budget too unrealistic?

Currently have RE001s but they're quite noisy and I'd like to get something quieter.

Cheers!

Morgan.. RE002's should be able to be found for around that price..

they are getting good reviews of late.

myself i am off the RE001's and 2's... they have soft sidewalls but at that profile it might not be an issue..

Conti's might be a good choice.. they are standard on lots of high end cars with that size standard so might be a decent choice..
ask potato Alex how much he paid?

my new favs are Yokohama S drives.. they are wearing really good on mine (compared to the RE11's i had)
but they aren't cheap..

1k is a decent budget though mate.. let us know what you choose.

Cheers for this info, Ty. The RE002s were actually around 420 a corner! KU39s are 310 and I can get P0 Nero's for 360.

FK452s are 218 which is a bit of a difference.

What's tyre rack, Marky?
