Also 'im sure youve probably done it already, but theres a right angle black bracket/brace near where the dump will sit on the RX...this must be removed....the thread left over is generally ok and "shouldn't" get in the way, but the dump wont fit with it installed!! B4's dont have these braces at all for this reason

SO whilst im trying to source the hubs i need im going to have the engines 100k service done.. Iv got the belts and water pump and am just going to drop it in for the day to have it all fitted.. with any required seals etc replaced..

My question is should i have the engine block opened up to check what the internals are like ?? Its killing me to think i may have a built engine that im going to run a overly safe tune on..

How big of a job is it to check the internals ?

Cheers Vice.

about $300-$400 in seals and anywhere between 3 and 6 hours labour..

we can try have a peek through the inspection holes and oil separator plate in the bell housing.. much quicker and less to replace but its not exactly easy to tell from there.. so cant be 100% we will be able to find anything.

Dropped the engine/tranny off at JJM turbo world this morning.. Going in for a full going over and getting the cam belts water pump etc all changed.. Get it back in a week then she will be ready to go in..

In the mean time im building up the front end on the ground.. So when the engines back ill strap that onto the cross member and then slide the whole thing under the car and lower the car down onto it..

I did think i would have to use the front drive shafts/hubs off the STI but after noticing they where missing the ABS holes that couldnt go ahead..

After a talk to Myles at AM auto he informed me i could just use all the lib front hubs/shafts etc.. SO going down that route now.. I was thinking of using the alloy arms off the WRX but its a bitch getting the hubs out of the lib ones so i think ill just use all the lib gear, Then install the 4 pots onto that..

Cheers VIce.

If you break the RX shafts, make sure you replace them with B4 ones. They are a very different design, with the B4 ones being designed to handle the extra torque the turbo gives. You will definitely be able to use the RX ones, but when/if they break, get the good ones. They arent hard to change out either, so there is no real point buying the good ones now.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Well got some bad news about the lib yesterday.. the engine/gbox has been in a tuning place for the last 3 weeks waiting to get its 100k service.. Got a call yesterday regarding a compression test I requested.. Numbers as follows.. 135,135,120,100..

So im assuming there is big internal problems, I was told by BMI that this test had been done before I took the half cut obvously it wasnt.. Which im not happy about..

So.. they are pulling the engine apart atm then im going to access the damage.. But I may go down the full rebuild path new pistons etc.. But yea not a happy man and sending out a big warning when dealing with BMI.. they have been more than useless with me.

No warranty? Anywhere in writing that they said it was compression tested?

From: Motor Imports [mailto:info@motorimports.com.au]
We have run it up and done a full test on it, as you would expect with only 54,000km it is perfect.

We can freight it into a depot in Melbourne for $450

Generally we only put a start up warranty on the half cuts because we don’t know the application a lot of guys buy half cuts for track cars so as you can understand we cannot give them the normal 3 month warranty.

Regards

From: Andrew Smedley [mailto:ASmedley@]

Thanks for the quick reply Jason.

Is the motor pressure tested ? warranty ? and can you please quote for delivery to Victoria ?

Regards Andrew

I'd be sending them the bill for the cost of checking the compression mate. If they don't give you any love, head toward the fair trading route.

Cheers,
Shazza

covered under warranty as it hasnt been started??

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

You would be mental to not try every option to get these scumbags to pay up.
