this should help you with the belt size http://www.hoverhawk.com/bcalc.html

IMO set your adjustments about center leaving 50% adjustment each way (looser/tighter), get the measurements and find a belt thats "common sized" so its cheaper/easier to find.

Aite so i got my links in the mail yesterday and installed them after work last night. Here are the resulting photos:

Old passenger side

This is the the right side diff bushing, is that a tear? Should i bother replacing. Looks like it could be a shite job to replace?
Posted Image
These are the rear links, should i replace now, or wait until i track down a B4 rear bar?

Driver side top & bottom

Passenger side top & bottom

The rear links aren't bent either.

Here's a video to the power steering noise as well. The first clip is probably the best, just as i turn out of the driveway you can here the vibration/fluttering. Hopefully someone on here can help a brother out! :D

Cheers guys,

Callum

Id just wait if the rear links arent clunking? Most replace cause they get worn out

Front links look good ;)

Those diff bushes are a biatch to replace! Subframe out job, and either burn or press out...i got sone whiteline inserts that slide into the gaps and solidify the bush a fair bit...needed some mods, but works...i also have the beatrush diff carrier so i never get diff thump anymore, where i used to get it alllllll the time lol

Diff thump lololollol thats the only noise my diff makes hahaha might have to get onto this carrier. I'll google it now haha

Yeah I thought you would say that. I don't have another car I can use for the week whilst I get the bushes pressed in/out :( the bushes are so cheap though! Maybe a job for holidays :D I do have a
Knocking clunking sort of noise but I thought it was just the bilstiens as thu are
Renound for doing that. I'll just wait until I find a rear bar me thinks. Cheers for the advice mang!

May ask yourself or anyone who is knowledgeable; How come those new links have mirrored the original angle from bottom top? -Is this better, also? :)

All over it like a nasty rash ;)

The first photos of old links, she is jacked up, but according to instructions it needs to be raised by the wheels i.e drive on hoist or ramps. In my case, we have ramps as well :)

Yerp :) Hopefully buying a B4 rear bar of Jovi soon :)

Went on a cruise today with ClubLiberty.asn up around some windies to healsville and the front definitely made a difference ! But since i got home they're already creaking :( How tight do the bolts get done up, i just did them up a little bit under F.T haha
Still waiting on my front bushes, even though i ordered them at the same time as the links, they still haven't arrived :( I'm guessing they must have to order them in?

Will possibly order new rear links this week, depending on how much the steering pump cost to fix. Really hope it doesn't need a new one!!

Loving all these new Gen 3 build threads popping up over the weekend too haha, just made for some excellent reading/ diversion from the missus time ;)

Might have some bad news re power steering pump - When I spoke to subaru spare parts when mine went, they said dont waste the money on re-buiilding them. The gen 3 pumps are a god-awful design, finicky to rebuild, and they have had a success rate of about 20%. I ended up getting a new one.

Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones, but if it doesnt work, don't hand out abuse to the guy who did it. Its the nature of these pumps.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Cheers for the advice Ben :) So should i just bite the bullet and get a whole new pump? Whilst driving hard today i hit a couple larger bumps in a corner and the pump made a very loud thudding noise. Wasn't just the normal fluttering, and its getting fairly noisy. Above 5000-5500 it seems to be all nice and smooth and never feels like its struggling to deliver the required fluid. Does anyone know roughly how much a new pump is?

It looks to me like those rear endlinks are metal, like the B4/GTB ones. I was under the impression, non-turbo Subs got them in plastic. If they arent making any noise, they are a better link to have than the plastic ones you had on the front.

Did your mechanic actually diagnose the steering noise as the pump? Could the flutter be from the aftermarket rims hitting the guard liner? :)

There are 2 different pumps for the 00 models. Both dont give you much change from 1k brand new. If you can get a good second hand one that isnt screwed, do that.
I tried doing that, but the second hand one was stuffed also, so it got sent back and I had to wait for a new one to be sent from sydney.

Cant hear much in those videos, but I'm at work now, so will listen to them on my headphones at home. If its the power steering pump, it will be hard to turn the wheel when idling, and at higher revs it will whine rather than flutter.

You will only hear the noises when you turn the wheel (when the pump actually operates), when driving straight there will only be a very slight whine at higher revs (it will be MUCH easier to hear it when idling in your driveway - sit the video camera on the ABS unit with the bonnet up in your driveway and just slowly turn the wheel left and right to full lock - I will be able to tell you if its the pump then).
If its easy to turn the wheel when idling, and there is noise when not turning the steering wheel I would say the PS pump is not the issue.

For all those people who dont want to have PS pump issues - Dont sit your gen 3 on full lock doing ringies with the revs up. I did it for about 30 seconds on a wet claypan, and thats what killed the pump. Very quick way to have the wallet really start complaining...

I re-built mine. Stopped abit of a whine I had.
Wasn't hard, just make sure the vanes/fins are the same way on the impeller. Hardest part was getting a clip off the shaft on the inside.

Make sure you get a new gasket (weird copper double gasket thing) for the top hose and make sure it's done up tight.

2002 Outback - it's gone...
