Went a hell of a lot quicker compaired to the RX, mostly because the engine was out. Working on getting the gear box and rear diff out of both cars and putting the WRX stuff into the RX, So I only have to wait to get my loom spliced and then put it all back in and start her up. Hopefully will be done in a few weeks, looks like I will be busing it to work...

I noticed the driveshafts of the RX and WRX look the same from the outside. Is there something different inside them? something i'm missing? they fit in the wheel bearings on the RX hubs. I have not taken everything out yet to know what fits what on my own. But would be good to know before I waste my time as I can't seem to find much on putting the same year WRX stuff into a LIB. Only putting newer STi stuff in a LIB.
Is the rear the same in a way that everything from the WRX goes straight in? e.g the drivetrain?

I feel its getting close but I have not been able to do much over the last month as I have been busy and all the rain in ACT lately....
I still need to source a new clutch and was thinking of getting a lightwheight fly while im at it.

Got everything out of the Liberty ready, So far have only got the WRX gearbox into the Lib. Spent some time cleaning the bay, and cutting my finger trying to get the rear diff bushes out..... Dumbest thing I have ever done. Does anyone know if the ones for the bracket will work with mine? As I have seen some from powerflex for the WRX but they are for the ones that use the bracket for the rear diff rather than being in the subframe.

I'm pretty sure you can't use the same bush for our model rear diff mounts. I just put some Whiteline ones in mine. The part numbers were KDT905 & KDT906. Partner them with some good quality full synthetic oil and you should pretty get rid of nearly all backlash (If you had any to begin with). Get a mechanic to do it though. Unless you have access to a hydraulic press. You will have a shit ass time swapping them over.
The Imprezas have a much much better designed diff mount, as it spreads the twisting force over a wider area.

Depends on the year model you are swapping gear from - The R180 stuff will not bolt in without serious modding of things, or changing of bits. I dont know what bits, others may be able to tell you that. Its not a simple changeover though. Something to do with massively different suspension and mounts AFAIK.
MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.
MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Im pretty sure I have found the powerflex ones for the GENIII, Would prefer them as my bush was stuffed and I have already tried to cut it out. So would not want to put everything in the car and then take it to someone to change them.
The WRX shafts have different internals, I had it explained to me by a subaru master tech one day, but many beers have been consumed since then, and have forgotten what the differences are. But they are large.

I was thinking there would have to be something that would make them stronger. But cannot see it. I just thought it might be better to use the RX ones if they are the same as mine are in better condition.
The rear diff looks the same now that I have taken everything out of both cars. The only thing I do know for sure is I can't use the WRX tailshaft as it is alot shorter than the RX.

You running 5 pseed or 6 speed??? If you're going 6 speed, you just need to get hold of the automatic tailshaft out of your model car.
As soon as i mentioned 300kw I was in trouble

Tailshaft. Propshaft -> Boats -> Propeller.

My bad.....
Just running the 5 speed out of the '99 WRX, So does that mean I can just use my Lib RX one with the five speed?

Sorry for the late reply.
Yep you will use your lib tailshaft. Just make sure the diff matches your gearbox too.

Did you only change the front brakes?
Did at first, but got some rear RDA rotors for $60 and it was meant to be for my car but my liberty ones are non vent. and the ones i got were. So had to put the rear brakes on also to fit over the rotor

No worries mate, I ended up putting it all in last night as all the diff bushes I ordered arrived.
Its the correct rear diff as I bought the whole WRX with everything still in it.
I used the brake lines in the lib on the rear brakes but what I noticed is how do I know if the hole in the braket on the line is lined up with the hole in the bolt? Im not 100% sure how they work, so was wondering if this would limit the amount of fluid going to the calipers.

Because its the first time I have ever done anything like this I am taking everything slow and making sure I check everything over a few times. Now comes the hard part of trying to work out where all the vaccum lines go... and all the plugs when my wiring gets done...

Bit of an update....
Wiring looms have been sent off to be spliced, while I am waiting I figured I would sort everything I can do while I wait.
Engine is in

Painted my headers with some of the VHT High temp paint. Turned out okay i guess.

Also I bought a some UEL headers and they have a bung were it goes 4-1 and one at the top of the up pipe. Now the stock headers didnt have one at the 4-1 part, not sure if the up pipe had one as I am unable to locate it at the moment......

Would I just be able to put bolt of some kind into it if I don't use it? And where would the best place to install the wideband if I get one?
