Ah cool, always intrigued in the process post-conversion, helps to know different state rules if I ever look at buying a conversion.

If the brakes you've put on were not an AUDM factory option for that vehicle, you'll need VASS engineer certificate regardless of any other change to get legit RWC. Engineer will have to perform a brake test, and all the costs that come with it.
A way cheaper option will be to sell your 4pots, and put on bigger gen4 brakes which look more like your stock brakes and are more likely to sneak through RWC.

I've been talking to different VASS engineers for my wrx->foz reshell, will likely have to get mine engineered for 4pot/2pot and 8inch wide wheels, as there were no upgraded brake options on ADM SF foresters.

Yea, don't try to get approval with adaptors. They will look at you strangely and then fail you instantly. Interesting to know the brakes have to be a factory option to sail through.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Everything has to be an AUDM factory option to sail through now, other than the allowable wheel dimension changes. :(

Interesting to know that about 4 pots?
I just got a RWC the other day with 4pots on a Gen 2 GX wagon without an issue and without an engineers certificate

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Not so much a worry for a plain vehicle, but when modifying, they look at everything.

Soooo, i dont know why you all complicate shit..

Call Vic Roads, Book in appointment for engine number verification
Attend Appointment

Tell them new engine has been put in due to old one going bang
Show receipt for purchase of engine with engine number shown.
Vic Roads employee checks numbers match and sends you on your way..

Database now shows Subaru Liberty BD Sedan white with engine number XXYYZZ22

tell insurance and thats it..

unless your going mental with massive builds or doing a H6 conversion you're not going to have issues.

its a EJ20
the turbo parts is irrelivant..

you could have turboed your 25D and not told them too.

Totally. My ej207 swap into 99 foz is a walk-in-walk out paperwork job in VIC. It's making sure you don't get an cubt doing the RWC that's the important bit. All non-AUD available brake upgrades can get you stung, wheels more than 1" wider than stock, all the regular stuff about multiple intake mods etc etc. Keeping the vehicle registered throughout the swap is the best bet. In and out with your new engine number.

Unless your RWC bloke specifically knows these cars inside and out though he won't know the difference between a 2 pot calliper and a 4 pot which has Subaru cast into it as far as stock is concerned. If you have aftermarket brakes you maaay see issue but for the most part inspectors only cares are, are they in good condition, do they work and do they work well enough.

There will always be a disparity between the rule book and what is actually practiced.

There will also be differences depending on the Staff, the Office location time of day etc.

But I think on the whole it is better to be prepared and to be compliant with the rule book than to expect everything to be ok. I wouldn't be worried about VicRoads as much as I'd be worried about insurance not covering the car if they find you have 20% power gain and no VASS certificate, again you'd probably have no issues, but it's all a possibility.

If anything it's interesting to know what the actual process is, both real and regulatory.

Well i was hoping that id be posting saying i finished the conversion today and had been boosting around all night but alas no luck. Clutch wouldnt bleed and was a pain in the ass doing it myself pumping and all that crap, by the time someone could come and help the engine had decided to stop playing ball.

Was running reasonably well then it suddenly died. Just straight off like pulling the battery. Started it up again and it starts straight up, revs to 2k for 10 seconds then dies straight away. Weird. Pulled the maf and it starts and runs rough but stays running. Really hoping the maf hasnt shit the bed but theres plenty of things to fix before I rule that out.

Other than that i managed to cross off most things on the to do list like the diff oil and a new CV etc

same here.

EJ25 out - EJ208 in - numbers check, guys asks 'why did you put in a smaller engine?' - done.

fuel pumperino ?  Maybe the high-speed ignition on is getting fuel out, but the idle mode isn't.  Though instant-death sounds a bit more electrical.

What Nick Neglects to say is he "Bumped" A cable off (They are temp wired to test ECU) and he didnt know which cable it was.. and now it doesnt run...

Kinda a prudent piece of information NICHOLAS!

No that was after it died. It probably hasn't helped but that wasn't the reason for it dying

I'm sure when you do an engine number change they ask about any mods to the engine and I'm sure on the form it asks if it's got forced induction.

Either way, in vic if the vehicle had a variant that came from the factory with an EJ20 turbo you're all good without an engineer's cert.

This may have changed and the best place to find out more is in the current VSI document that should be easily found on the vicroads website. There may still be grey areas as let time I looked at it a lot of it was how you interpreted the text. It was also under possible review with a national code or an NSW code being created/reviewed. It was the VSI-8 back then.

Also, got it going for more than 2 minutes now?

What was the issue?

How big is your smile?

And the big one (because it's their driveway) - how impressed were your parents?

Cheers
