Just using a socket . I did have to give it some oomph to move it though so I'm thinking i was never actually tightening it. Just shearing it.

Seen it soooo often. People over tighten and snap these all the time. These nuts are only supposed to be 25nm.
Strut is fine, just replace stud. Ive done a number of them for people...

Looks like it's the actual strut top nut that holds the top hat on, not the little ones that bolt the suspension to the car??
If its the latter I might have some spares

What tool can be purchased to show how tight you are tightening a bolt for example?
Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille
Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.

A torque wrench...
I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Thanks Sam. I may have to invest in one of them. $65 from SuperCheap Auto. Not bad.

Just make sure you know that they're a proper mate. Mixing money with mates doesn't end up well in most instances...

Of course man. Not making any judgements of course, but I've heard many stories of life-long best mates ending their relationships badly plainly due to money. And it wasn't even a large sum. I guess whoever was in the right was running it on principle.
