Done!!!

4 new boots...all cv's cleaned, checked and regreased and all reinstalled ready for a drive tomorrow :)

Wasn't too bad at all..just used lots of latex gloves and lots of rag and took my time...looks much better now

Also whilst i was under there i wanted to find out why my passenger side had an extra 10mm of track with the same camber setting

After an hour of measuribg every bit of the rear end i fugured out that the upper holes on the hubs are about 3 to 4mm different?

No bends, no cracks, no damage? Wtf?

So i just put in some spare camber bolts and aligned the brake disc (bolted tight) to the strut body and made sure both side were even top to bottom

Once i wound the lateral arms back in 10mm the rear end was all even again!! Hooray! Equal track and for the moment roughly equal camber (needs another alignment)

Pretty happy with all the dirty work done today! Considering i set myself 4 days to do it lol

im really glad the cv boot is fixed now as it was always in the back of my mind lol

So back to the little things again tomorrow!

And maybe some pics of the old girl in the sun :)

Best thing I ever did with c bot work is to get a CV banding tool. I think I picked mine up for about $25-$30 on fleabay delivered with an assortment of new bands too.

Another tip is to also make sure there is not grease under the boot when you tie it down. I usually get a tag in there with some thinners to clean up both the boot and the metal it's about to hang out with.

I don't find doing cvs such a pita anymore. But then again I can get my shafts out easier than you guys can.

Also I love how just about every pic of under car work has it on a jack stand (not just you Matt!). Again, I currently don't have that problem :P

Cheers

The new bands dont need the tool...just grab with pliers...pull...bend and centre pop

All done

Why no grease between the boot and shaft?

Mine has some in there? They live covered in the grease so i didnt see the problem?
And shafts out only took 10mins max

Pop the pin....undo hub nut....undo the long hub bolt and remove...pull on hub and remove shaft
;)

I've found that if you leave grease under the mating face it can cause the boot to start to leak or slip if it manages to work its way around.

I got tired of the pliers and pull method. The tool makes it so much easier and will guarantee a tighter fit too.

I'd leave it the way you've done it now and just monitor it for leakage. Good thing is you can reuse the boot ;)

Ah yeah, now you say that I was thinking rear diff. If I want I don't need to lift a wheel to do a rear boot, but that's a totally different setup to a road hugger!

Cheers

Yep lol....and with yours much higher youd have more pulling strain on the boot sealing surfaces

Looking at mine theres pretty much no pull at all on the clamped bits

And yeah im sure theyd get them much tighter..its pretty much a bandit strap like we have at work...will have to check if we have a small tool for it

I intend to go to an r180 rear end asap anyways...so these only need to last a year tops

I hope :)

Those spats look elegant (not like the abomination that the GenIIIs have) and the black muffler/tip really work well

You have inspired me somewhat, I think I need mudflaps for the RB.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
