This might be slightly off topic but I didn't feel like starting a while new thread for it.

Has anyone bought a mobile phone off Kogan? The cheap prices are really drawing me in. I know it's a grey market phone but its nearly half the price of what you would pay in a store.

A while back I bought an S3 off Kogan, can't really fault the service. Pretty sure the model I got was intended for somewhere in Europe, but phones unlocked and fast shipping so can't complain.

Fair enough.

Any issues with coverage and picking up data networks?

Also I'm not that fussed about a wall charger considering I have a few already but do they give you one?

Didn't have any issues with it and I was on Vodafone..

And what you get is the Euro charger than comes with the phone and then they throw in a cheap wall plug in to usb charger but it's pretty shitty.

Yeah just as I thought.

I'm bidding on some stuff on ebay atm but if that all falls through I might get onto Kogan. Cheers.

My wife bought an S3 from Kogan, no problems, and a little while later, I did to.
But mine didn't work - it didn't accept any SIM card, didn't like charging but I found a combination of the supplied wall charger and a different USB cable that would charge. But then the whole battery would discharge in less than 3 hours.

I reported it and complained and screamed and it took what felt like ages to finally get a replacement. I was not happy with their customer service and the time it took to get a working phone.

The replacement has been working fine ever since and I'm happy with it, but I decided to never deal with Kogan again - I've bought a $2,000 camera and other items from Hong Kong, China and other places on eBay and never had the problem I had with Kogan.

+1 to grey import phones. My last 2 phones have been imports with no issues. Just make sure you get the right frequency and your sweet.

It's really dependent on where the phone comes from. I've had a couple of mates order of Kogan. One had no issues, other couldn't use the Play Store..

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Yeah I'm pretty clued up on the frequencies but it could be a mixed bag with ordering from them.

Anyways I ended up getting a Xperia Z1 off ebay last night for a price cheaper than Kogan. Gonna pick it up tonight and hope its all good.

I had a feeling that it would be a huge pain in the ass if you actually have any issues with a faulty handset. I guess thats the risk you take with these things.

Z1 should be good. I was interested in the HTC One M8, but went to the S4 instead.

Z1 has an awesome camera and screen, or so I've heard.

I wouldn't deal with Kogan, mainly because I've heard their customer support ain't good, and that wouldn't be an issue, if I didn't hear about how many people have issues with their purchases and have to deal with the almost non-existent support

Yep! Should be good sack. It's gonna be a jive upgrade from my 2.5 year old xperia s which has been a little champ all that time.

I'm a little worried the phone might be a bit to big so if that's the case I will just sell it and get the z1 compact that I have had my eye on for a while.

I have a Samsung S4. Don't like it, always ends up having memory leaks.

I'll agree with that, S4 has memory leaks, but oh well, it works for me for now, and if it slows down too much, restart.

I stopped following phones a long time ago. Is nexus 4 good ?

I also don't like the amount of time it takes my phone to load up photo manges from windows.

When logging into the memory card DCIM the icons take forever to load, wish it was faster.

Nexus 4 is great, got one at launch and gave it to my brother a year later, still going strong.

It might be slow because of USB2? If it supports USB 3 it'd probably make it quicker.

The N5 is out now. Slightly better, I still like my old one though. Enjoy it while it lasts, Google are thinking of dropping their Nexus line which will be a huge shame.
