Google are thinking of dropping their Nexus line which will be a huge shame.

But I'm sure they will still make their own phones. Might not be under the "nexus" brand.

It just sounds like it's going to complimented by a more premium Android Silver line - not so much discontinued.

Anyways back to the Kogan discussion.

I ended up picking up a used Xpera Z1 on ebay on Sunday from someone local. The phone originally was bought from Kogan and he also gave me the receipt for warranty as well.

I'm having no issues with data networks after getting the confiq sent over text from Telstra.

It also came with a heaps dodgy looking Kogan branded wall charger which I will not be using.

Ahoy, super nerds,

I have been running MacOs for the last few years, wanting to change, but I don't want Windows, just wanting to know if Ubuntu would be the way to go.

Has anyone had experience with it?

Yes. And no. Stay with OSX. If it's a Mac anyway. If its a hackintosh, then give Ubuntu a try and get frustrated lol.

Ah, fair enough. Guess i'm kind of limited then.

Might stay with my dual core Imac until it dies then.

People. Missus and I were talking a week or so ago, and once the house is done (probably a month, maybe 2), she wants me to get a new Pc. I've done a bit of research into it, but was curious what you guys reckon. A couple of things, want to stay Intel and nvidia, and must have 2x 32" monitors. Missus does a lot of work with SAP, hence the dual screens and 32" size. Upper limit on price of approx 3k. Can go a few hundred over if need be, but prefer to keep it down under 3. I do use this thing for games too. Lets hear your thoughts!

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Samsung have a little monitor out that impresses me. 28", 3840 x 2160 res and price I saw was $699.
I like resolution over size - one 32" monitor gave me a sore neck from turning to see the sides. I can't imagine 2x32", but I'm sure it would be immersive :)
I don't understand why SAP requires multiple large monitors, but that's cool. I'm in IT and see people programming on a cruddy laptop screen. I do prefer & use a dual setup at work though, and a 2560x1440 single at home.

PC - IMO, just be careful of who assembles it. I always built my own PCs, but got lazy in my old age. Had a shop build one and it caught on fire because they coiled up the front panel wires! Now I build them myself ALWAYS. ;)

Do your homework, lookup CPU comparisons and work out your price point.
Me: I always look for the cheapest level of good performance I can find. Last upgrade was a Quad core Intel CPU and 16GB ram for my wife's PC - it gets heavy Photoshop use.
AMD CPUs don't seem to be cutting it yet, so you're right to stick with Intel.

SAP itself doesnt need big screens - we use 22s and 24s out at work, but an addon the planners use is designed to be run on a 32" screen apparantly - what I'm told, I have no real interest in the planning world. The planners out here use 24" screens in portrait mode with 1080P res, and they still use the scroll bars constantly. So the missus wants something decent for that. But that 28 sounds like it could be the goods. Cheers!

Was thinking entry level i7 at this stage, just for the extra cache from the top of the range i5. I dont think its worth the extra coin to move up the i7 range (from what I've seen, the prices jumps pretty quick), but if someone can give a good reason thats not going to cost the earth, I'm certainly interested to hear your opinions!

Will certainly be building it myself, I cant justify paying someone else for something I can do myself easily enough. Also means more money I can spend on the build.

If you want to try out Ubuntu, i have here and there, but to test it out run it first on a Virtual Box and see how you like it. i think Mac use an application like VMware for that type of stuff.

Definitely look into what resolution you need rather than size. If you get a larger monitor with the same resolution, you'll actually fit the same amount of stuff on the screen, it'll just be bigger - i.e. same amount of scrolling.

You should be able to manage that within your budget.

Looks like only one has a dedicated GPU, and a Quadro 4000 is pretty old afaik. Is CAD work mostly gpu intensive?

I'd say only the machine with the Quadro 4000 would run CAD quickly then, it'd be nicer if it had an SSD too.
