The old L series would be almost impossible to do with the speedo, as if I am I right, I believe they were to old to use a speed sensor, and rather have a mechanical cable drive to operate the speedo.
The newer gen 2 liberties changed to a sensor, but all the gen 1 and older stuff used a cable drive.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You might be able to rig up a little motor, but it would be a massive job...

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Only Aus delivered RS' and certain EDM models got electronic in gen 1.

I know Link ecu have a gauge sweep option in the ecu settings, but i doubt the stock ecu's have the option to turn it on.

You're on the money there! They do have a speed sensor, built into the back of the cluster that's cable driven. My EJ22 ECU references this pulse for it's speed sensor and my aftermarket cruise uses magnets on the tail shaft.

Hoping to soon have the 6 gauge cluster with the centre piece that matches my gearbox with the centre locking diff ;)

Back on topic, anyone got any new before/after shots of their cluster swaps?

Cheers

This whole thread is about mine ;) havent decided what my next one will be. Thinking either a GD STi one with the defi sweep or a V4-6 cluster for matching engine and cluster bonus points

You've now got the cluster from that Gen 3 yeah? Dunno what it looks like but it could be a subtle hint as to what's under the bonnet heritage wise ;)

Can an one tell me what actually controls the sweep on the cluster? Is it off the bcm or Ilumination controller? Or signal from the ecu?

As far as we know this isnt possible so I dont think we're going to be any help. This is only the second time ive ever heard it mentioned. Im not saying its not impossible, just that we dont know anything about it

It's not a factory feature

It would have to be something within the unit itself

Would you know what controls the sti gauge. Iv heard there is a chip in the cluster? An I'm having Communication error when I hook up the scan tool. To see if I can access it throw the on board systems. So iv tried 6 scan tools. From snap-on to Hana-tech. An scan-pro p1. So iv got to work that out. An go from there.

Snap on will work, as long as you have the correct cartridge in. The boys back in Roxby have hooked into my B4 with a snap on one before. A generic cartridge won't talk.
