I think youll find the inputs on the box are outputted from the cluster so nothing needs to be done to the box. I certainly havent

I know the little box connects to the cluster, what I'm saying is that to get the driver to work properly for the backlight to control that harsh lighting and work with the stalk you can bypass the cluster or pin into the cluster with the variable stalk or pot with the 3 legs going into the 3 inputs of the cluster.

Took another look at the little box. Circuit isn't too bad as a driver and looks decipherable. From the looks of what I can see

Black Yellow is ground, Red green is +VCC, blue I believe is the resistance .

Going through this thread again Nick, really digging it.

My old green gen 2 had a v4 wrx sti cluster and enjoyed that. Current maroon has the JDM STi gen 2 cluster but for some reason, its very dull and I can't seem to make it brighter. Like, really struggle to see it. Changed to LED globes but that didn't do anything. Any thought? I really like how nice and bright yours is. Hmmmmmmm

Being JDM it wouldn't have had a dimmer in the light circuit, maybe try putting the  wiring for the dash illumination straight to 12v? Have no idea if this is the case but it may be worth trying

I don't think the clusters are any different. It's all in the combination switch

I'll try another cluster in and see if it works better. But thats about as much electrical knowledge I have. I'm a ham-fisted quarryman. I turn big rocks into little rocks.

If it does I'm interested in finding out how. I want mine to do that lol

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Yes they do. Had an issue a few months ago. An the battery had to be disconnected. An its stoped. Iv talked to an friend. He said there is a way to turn it back on, if you push in the trip meter. While turnin on the ignition. But for the life of me I cant get it back to work.

Well if you figure it, let us know. I'm especially interested in making mine do it as I have an 01 rev D also. Maybe even a specific DIY thread. It might be simple as hell, but I think something like this is worthy of a thread.

Cheers,
Ben

I wish I could get my old L series gauges to do a sweep. That would be a sweet mod!

Interesting read for a tasty visual mod!

Well in theory you could find out what voltage = maximum on the gauges and make some kind of board like an arduino to raise voltage up and back on startup. Fair bit of effort but would be cool
