Easy peasy to do as well. Front facia off the cluster then just colour in the clear plastic bits on the back of the face

Started cutting up the shroud today. Have taken about 1" off the bottom half so far and its very close to fitting. Im being conservative and am checking every time i take a bit off so it takes a while

I ended up cutting the sides to meet with the bottom to clear the sides of the cluster

I can't wait to see the finished product. I think it will look insane.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Ive got it 75% working i reckon. Dimmer switch hasnt been touched but I think ive got my head around it and the indicator lights like high beams, hand brake arent working but im not overly fussed. Trying to make it look pretty for now

Had a fiddle with the dimming this morning. Rather than fiddling with the dimmer stalk I've simply hot wired it to Max bright for now. If its too bright at night I'll look into the stalk

Also now that I've done most of the work I think I should say thank you to rkrenicki, if he ever sees this, for all the ground work and support he's done. This wouldn't be possible without it.

First post updated with conclusions/findings/notes for the future etc

In my car, max brightness at night means you need sunnies on

Yep, sorry to say this man, but you'll be swearing at yourself the first drive at night you do. Not so bad in the city where there's lots of ambient light from street lights etc, but rural stuff I think you'll find some pretty serious eye strain happening after about 15 min. If possible, hard wire it to the first click of the stalk, that way it's not blinding.

Looks Good Nick.. told you cutting the shroud would be the go ;)

BTW.. if you need a hand with the Dimmer let me know.

i'm pretty sure the dimmer on the blackout cluster is in the Meter vs the stalk in the gen2...

i may be wrong but from memory when you move the gen3 dimmer between "Notches" it steps up or down..

the gen2 even though there are distinct "Notches" you can have it between the notches and it works.. i think its just a POT in the Stalk (gen2) vs selectable voltage input on the meter  (gen 3)

come to think of it.. it probably uses an illumination module on the gen3 vs gen2 using a POT.

if you need i have a Illumination module here you can have to fiddle with.
I was going to use it to make my floor and puddle lamps fade out but honestly i would prefer to see it go to use here.

i am half tempted to do this now haha

I know it outputs 5v from the cluster and based on the difference from the stalk output which is also 5v determines the brightness 0 difference being Max. That's how a gen 3 works at least

Looks nice man!
Question
How did you go about checking the lights on the cluster when it's out of the car, you said you had a 12v power supply, but how exactly did to you connect it to power supply when it's out of the car?

12v to A8,A9 ground A18 and B7. Then to test the warning lights etc just add a ground to the corresponding pin. Most of the lights use a switched ground but some are switched 12v.

There is a little box behind the cluster that acts as a CCFL driver for the BF Cluster. Most of the schematics for this type of driver is pretty basic, I haven't taken a very very good look at the box itself yet but from opening it and taking a brief look the box looks like it has something along the lines of ground 12v ignition and 2 pot inputs => indicator stalk. I'll get around to it sooner or later just gotta be less damn busy.
