So today is the day ive been waiting for for years. All those years of watching other people convert and getting chopped by Ty are coming to an end. Picked the car up bright and early from Tys and hauled it back to my place with the help of my brothers Land Cruiser

FBzeG93.jpg
10 seconds into engine conversion and chill and the gen 3 was giving me this look
lAuMr2X.jpg
1 and half hours later the RX was looking like this
AOYLphT.jpg
and not long after the 20K was out and ready to be worked on.

Did a full major service. Water pump and thermostat, all idlers, tensioner, new belt, inspected the cam seals which were bone dry so decided to leave them be. Replaced the valve cover gaskets, spark plug gaskets, spark plugs, Coolant crossover o-rings, rear main seal.

Mzfciyx.jpg

The valve covers were super clean from the get go. Must be a very low KM engine
F2l6IFV.jpg

Also got the intake manifold off the block to be repainted and tidied up for tomorrow. Should be a fun job as for me is there a lot of stuff compared to a NA manifold. The clutch that was in the car was actually very healthy still but is most likely only a standard exedy. Thought about reusing it but have decided to stick with getting an Exedy HD for when the boost gets wound up. Goal for tomorrow is getting the new gearbox and LSD in and swapping the rear hubs to the two pot ones I traded my alloy arms for with Wob.

Cheers cubts. More fun on the way

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Alrighty lots of work done today again. Gearbox is in as is the rear diff. Skids ahoy

Both copped new CV seals. Gearbox also got a tailshaft seal and we resealed the rear diff cover as it was a bit oily and the silicone was breaking off. Big thanks to Ty for taking the reigns on the front diff bearing retainers <3

Not a lot will happen for the next few days as its back to reality of work and uni and shite. Tys going to study his wiring diagrams and come up with a plan of attack. Weve decided to reuse my RX intake manifold loom so we're going to have to physically reloom it to change the routing off a few things but that shouldnt be too hard.

warSo00.jpg

The manifold was in a sad way but is now nice and red and will put it all back together tomorrow with a silicone intake
7VuAczp.jpg

Also drilled a hole for the Intake Air Temp sensor and put the grommet in. Mad tidy if i do say so myself.

tJ9t34E.jpg

Also bolted the boost control bracket in. The aftermarket 3 port is now an OEM 3 port for V4 ECU goodness

Aiming for engine in next weekend

Wasnt too hard to get it all together. Fiddly and but not rage inducing like doing it in the car would be. :fork: that right off

Cheers Kong 😊

I honestly dont know how people do it on the car.

Me neither as it really doesn't fit at all without some tweaking under the manifold

Huge milestone tonight! Picked up my new clutch this morning, financed by my amazing girlfriend. A keeper if ive ever seen   Went with an Exedy HD for the future proofing and to blow the gearbox up lel.

K7q3VVO.jpg

U6APxot.jpg
Tfw no more pink pressure plates :(
rmXm697.jpg

Put that on this arvo with help from Joss. Cheers m90. Also put the rest of the driveline and catback exhaust in

2zjfM40.jpg
w1LPJAH.jpg
Also found a blown CV boot >_>. Thats a job for next week when my big pay comes in
JxH2TFf.jpg

The suby crew relocated our weekly meet to my front yard and we had another work sesh. THE ENGINE IS IN THE CAR

cfzUsxF.jpg

Had 2 minor fails that were easily remedied.

  1. I put the throw out bearing on the clutch rather than the fork
  2. When i removed the nuts on the gearbox the stud came with it. When i put them back in I put them in the wrong holes lel

Fixed those 2 issues and then hoisted the engine up
kVH1iKl.jpg

GzfB8pg.jpg

As far as putting engines in goes this went in like butter. Studs slid straight in and the engine went straight into the gearbox. Just a matter of putting things back and moving some wires now. Then time for boost  :diablo:
