Fueling issues

Fark! lol

DW300 pump is not performing it seems :(

Seems its performing like a dw200?

Mick even spent the time to try an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the return but the pump just couldnt supply the juice

Slightly annoyed to say the least

But this is the price you pay i suppose ffs

Gonna try a bigger pump and delete my oem fpr to just run an adjustable

Annoyed...but we just need to keep pushing forward

I will get this thing working perfect!!

But...the bigger intake definitely brought on the power much earlier which is good :)

But no more power yet

Is your pump running the stock wiring or a dedicated feed?

The DW300 won't give you fuel for 250kw?

They will do 300+ all day long. Weird.   :nea:

Hence why we think it is not performing

Weve tried almost everything atm

Will be looking over it tomorrow aswell to check a couple things

This is the dyno sheet from yesterday

Even though we couldnt make any more power due to fueling...you can see that the bigger CAI allowed the turbo to reach full boost earlier and brought the power on much earlier and gave a touch more torque and with less boost required :)

The thing wants to make more power...just needs fuel lol

But you can also see on this sheet how the car now leans out due to the fuel pump being unable to supply the fuel

Blue is last run....red is the current tune

20150725_110044.jpg

fingers crossed the fueling fixes planned fix this issue finally

Do you have the opportunity to check voltage drop between Batt+ and pump+ and also Batt- and pump- when at full song? (Current draw under the same conditions would be handy also.)

Cam's comment regarding the ability of the pump to provide more than enough fuel makes me wonder if there is a wiring issue of some sort, affecting the output of the pump.

Yep there is voltage drop issues

All the wiring is upgraded already though from the battery to the controller and from the controller to the pump...next step is a dedicated positive from the battery switched by the fuel pump controllers positive and an extra earth at the fuel pump controller

Its a very common issue when starting to pull this much fuel it seems

Id still test it Matt. You may be able to identfy if the issue is more the supply or ground circuit.
At the very least, I would test the current before you change anything so after the repairs are done, you can check if/how effective they were.

I will be testing it as soon as i can...got over a week till the next try at a tune and a lot of days off in between

Mainly had to get the adjustable reg sealed up and properly fitted before running it again as it was dripping precious E85 over the engine bay

Once the 3 bond has cured ill pressure test it..then start testing the fuel pump circuit for issues

Yea, I'd certainly be looking into the earthing, if you've upgraded the positive side only, that makes the 25 yr old negative wiring the weak point, and it's probably deteriorated or corroded or something. A dedicated negative will probably fix the problems if you're having voltage issues, or at least check the resistance of your joints. You might find a bad one in there somewhere. Keen to hear how you go.

MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

If you are running a new peice of cable, I'd be looking at running at least 6mm for the fuel pump. 15 amp can cause a fair bit of volt drop over 7 meters.

Nah its new ground and positives in the resplice using the GD wiring to the controller and big twin cable to the pump

Al does it to all the cars and some make stupid numbers :)

Im gonna upgrade the positive wire to be a direct battery feed with 10ga wire

Cant mess too much with the ground side aside from adding an earth at the controller as its pulse modulation pump control

All good...ill sort it...gotta have a look see first :)

But yep i plan on going overkill with the wiring lol

Will probably parallel up the two upgraded wires going to the pump and keep them as the controlled earth...and run a seperate big positive wire thatll be switched by a relay up under the dash

then add to that another earth onto the fuel pump controller plug

And ill check every other connection whilst im at it

Matt, just a quick question regarding your BC coilover rear damper extenders. There is an option for either 100mm or 200mm lengths. Is one too long and the other too short? Thanks.

Ill have my seat off today and will measure what i cut mine down to

I think i got the 200mm ones and cut them to size....easy to trim them :)

So if its the same price go the 200mm
