So how do returnless systems control fuel pressure?

Edit: all good...just read up on it :)

Uses a regulator back at the pump to simply circulate fuel through the pump and back into the tank when adequate pressure is at the rails

Cool

It is cool, plus the recirculated fuel is used to create a venturi which draws fuel from the surrounding area and keeps the swirl pot full.

I did the filter (in tank) on the RB today and it has filter, pump, reg and return venturi all in a a complete unit, like most modern cars. Good idea, it just means the in tank unit needs to be dis-assembled to replace the filter.

Yep where mine has the same venturi...it syphons fuel from the passenger side of the tank due to the hump design of the fuel tank

I wanna delete that venturi and put a small inline pump on the syphon line

So it continually pulls the fuel over to the fuel pump and straight into the anti surge box ill be installing, as the oem venturi (or jet pump) is a bit crap lol

I could understand him getting stroppy if you weren't paying, but if you're paying, he should be happy.

so while the rewire of the fuel pump circuit that i did works a treat.....i simply wasnt happy with some of the bits used and how it was done

It just wasnt my typical overkill fashion lol

The things i didnt like were

-The shitty terminals on the relay and having to join 8mm2 cable to 2.5mm2
-The wiring not going all the way to the tank lid
-The ground wire not being the same size as the positive

In other words way too many failure points and connections

So with this in mind i went about fixing it up to keep me content with it all...first stop i wanted a relay that i could bolt the cable to..ie not having crappy crimped connections that could fail

Enter this bad boy....ordered a 100A as they are the smallest amperage relay that has the 6mm stud terminal....but got a 200A lol...same size and weight though ;)
20150805_103036.jpg

I needed to find a more suitable spot to mount it as it wouldnt fit where i had the 40A relay....and i didnt want to add any more to the cable from the battery....so under the drivers seat was a perfect spot with a preformed hump already there :)
20150805_160849.jpg

See with carpet over it it is all gone
20150805_161106_1.jpg

Bolted it to the floor...and sealed up the bolt hole to keep it water tight (still yet to run the cable to the pump in this pic)
All the wiring isnt finished yet as it needs to be soldered and heatshrinked, then all cable tied together ;)

I will be running an 8 gauge positive directly to the tanks pump lid and using electrical bulkhead conectors drilled through the lid to bypass the OEM plug on top of the lid to remove any points of failure
Screenshot_2015-08-03-17-33-18.png
Screenshot_2015-08-03-18-49-56.png

Ill be adding my own sealant to these to ensure theyre vacuum tight...and adding an extra nut on the outside so they stay tight when the wire is removed for lid removal

Another thing im doing is running an 8 gauge black wire from these bulkhead terminals straight to the fuel pump controller to uprate the ground wire aswell as the positive

Then and only then will i be happy with it lol

In other news i got my STi anti slosh box...but it didnt have the OEM pump strainer...and the walbro ones are too small and shitty, and they create more issues with fuel surge which is what im trying to alleviate lol

So i scored a cheap as used assembly with an OEM strainer on it which after a tidy up in fuel looks the goods :)

OEM on left...Walbro on right

Anyways im off to do some more wiring....peace out!!

I sometimes feel I comment too much on this build, but It's just so good.

The quality of work and attention to detail is inspiring to say the very least.

The car is magnificent man!

You motivate me so much Matt. Not only to do the best I can with what I'm doing, but also to not settle for "Well, it works so that will do".

Good on you and thanks for that.

Thanks also for keeping all of us updated on your work and...... smash on brother!

All good my man....i sometimes feel i blab on about crap that no one cares about.

But its the one or two who do read my babble that keep me keeping on lol

The motivation thing works the other way aswell mate....so many awesome and inspiring builds on this site, with the same "do it once, do it right" theme going on

This obviously includes you Kongman! And im sure you have a faint idea on the others :D

The car is not perfect in my eyes..but im a little nuts lol. But for a 23+ year old car it is more than awesome to me ;)

I find that if im just a little bit "not happy" with things i do...then i will stew on it until i go and fix it and am happy with it

In the end im just happy working on the car to make it better all the time, its my chillout time...a hobby as such :)......even though i often abuse the fark out of it!

The hurling of abuse at the RS is the only thing that worries the missus hahaha.....i try telling her that im not angry, it just helps to throw a few words around....somehow that thing you're trying to do suddenly works after you swear at it a bit lol

Its a motorbike starter relay pretty much ;)

Real hard to get a relay with stud terminals unfortunately...100A is the smallest ive ever seen

And the 200A is the same size and doesnt seem heavier
