Thanks mate. Still not done on it but its a pot load better than what it was! I'm hoping to pull the mid section out a bit more before treating the rust.

Depending on timing of rego etc will depend on whether or not I'll bog and sand back before giving it a good sealing coat of paint to keep the moisture out.

I've also hatched a plan for some DIY uel extractors with the help of a mates welding gear and exhaust building expertise.

I've also got a plan for that rear seat belt that involves a wrecker down near Geelong. It'll be from an outback so could be a different colour but for the u pullit price they're asking I don't care about colour atm.

Cheers

Aside from the obvious, ol' Basil looks to be in pretty good condition for a Rev A-C. So many of them have faded paint and are dinged up to the max, makes me sad.

One thing about this club and everyone in it, is the willingness and effort everyone put into these things to keep them alive. Even if they're not a balls-out power build, the humble family chariot is still given a chance.

Well done, Bennie!

Thanks Jimbo.

I'm totally into fixing up cars - I've now had my "$500 special" L series for more than 10 years.  This one (in the sig pic) turned into a bit of a monster but I love it!

This Gen3 is breaking new ground for me, as is the RS I'm working on.  Progress is much slower on the RS project than I really want.  So Basil has been a good distraction until I have to hand him over to his actual owner.  I reckon he's grown on me...  That climate control is something I've not had before, and actually still don't have come to think about it

This Gen3 has some shopping trolley dings in the doors, the front bumper is a bit rough but with a good amount of work should come up well - if we could ever get it to sit still long enough for the required amount of time needed to sort it out.  Bullbar?  Well, country car with lots of upcoming km's it could always be on the cards if the right thing came up.  It'd have to be full bumper replacement though at the right price.

I can also see why people go to the effort to drop a turbo conversion into one of these.  I've always seen the EJ25 as a bit like the Holden 202 - built out to the maximum of the engineering ability of the block so to speak.  Due to this they typically come with inherent issues.  I've not driven it any great distance yet but I'm pretty impressed with its get up a go for what it is.  I'm hoping this will be a sweet long term ride for my sister, hence why HGs were done to hopefully solve an oil leak (and for RWC).

Anyone got opinions on the two rims - which one looks better?

Cheers

Bennie

Haha... Usas, I just posted in your thread about these going onto the RS last weekend. We did a rim swap between Basil and the RS. We'll have to see what happens as it'll depend on which rim she wants (but probably won't care).

Seatbelt sorted, so I had to have a go at that rear panel so they couldn't knock us for rust.

After a bit of work that looked like this:

BbzrtF.jpg

It ended up looking like this:

TbICXj.jpg

sMKqE3.jpg

And this is how it used to look:

V2jWOx.jpg

Last week it got some rust killing acid treatment.  I went to paint it last weekend but wasn't happy so did another treatment, only then to have the weather turn on me so I couldn't finish the job off.

Now wire wheel and paint is this week's task before RWC, hopefully Thursday :D

Cheers

After a bit of time has passed, end of year wrap up at school, interviewing for new positions I've finally got around to acid treating, wire wheeling and sealing this section of panel.

So it's gone from this:

mbEp6Y.jpg

ODfE25.jpg

V2jWOx.jpg

To this (please excuse the dodgy iphone4 pics):

bOSsFJ.jpg

Lp41VV.jpg

fQda4u.jpg

KzPgnl.jpg

Not perfect but I'm happy with it as it's not "look at me" in your face damage now.  The satin black hides it well on the dark green.

I found further damage behind the rear bar, so that's been replaced at some point.  I pull it out because I'm a bit OCD like that, and I replaced a missing metal plate with a section of juice bottle siliconed in place ;)

Now to add a few bolts and those plastic retainer clips to properly secure the rear bar on.  Any tips on how to make the push in clip work properly?  I had the LHS one do it's jop properly prior to bar removal, now both won't hold the top section of the bar flush with the bodywork.  Frustrating.

Still hoping the UEL mods happen, I just need to tee it and a permit up for that to happen.

Cheers

Bennie

Thanks mate.

UEL extractors done now. Pretty happy with the result - subtle beat that's very pleasant to drive with.

It seems to become more pronounced as the exhaust heats up :D

Unfortunately my before video stuffed up and didn't record what I thought I was recording. How I stuffed that up I don't know.

Pics to come later one I've managed to upload them ;)

As you can see - this is in the development stage. We used the passenger's side of the original manifold, cut off the driver's side flange and reversed it. If I did this again I'd take an inch out of the two pipes that come from the flange before welding the flange back on in reverse.

A new collector was also made rather than welding the old one back on facing the other way.

This is it all welded up ready for it's install:

ckOEBy.jpg

No sound file or video - I might get around to one (looks like I need a new computer :(), plus it's got a "rally car" rasp noise when you stab the throttle. I'm not a fan of that, but I think this is the rear lukey muffler.

Anyway I'm happy with the result and I've enjoyed the short cruise I've had in it so far. The big test will be cruising at speed to see what the noise factor is.

:D

Huge thanks to Vin for his time, effort, conversation and personal stories. That's the other bit I love about hanging out in his shed.

Cheers

RWC today. Didn't go the way I hoped.

I need help with the rear end - where to get suspension bushes/what's the best option to get?

New front pads needed.

Rear muffler has a hole - well, it does now since the dude did some scratching around with a screw driver.

Need the correct wheel nuts and hub spigot adaptor to make the rims legit.

Then a few consumables - wiper blades and fan belts (look old apparently).

Not too bad really, just the rear suspension is the big bit of work - and good timing since we're moving house at the same time :/

Let me know about what's needed for the rear end and how it's best done.

Cheers

All rear bushes except trailing arm bushes...

Where would I get a set of those bushes in regional vic? This is a daily driver, not a drive for pleasure car as my sister won't notice any difference in cornering ability if I changed anything for the better.

I do have some new whiteline bushes for the rear you can have for the price of postage.

Can't remember which ones they were but will double check in the morning.
