Sooooooooo, another quiet night shift with some free time. What better to do than to update this thread lol
Anyways, a bit has happened,...killer b sump package has been installed, ceramic coated headers are on, all rusty pipework has been replaced and the engine given a general tidy up and going over...just gonna put the VF34 on it soon and then wrap the engine up til its ready for install
Also in-case no one noticed, the RS will be matte black (eventually) I have coated about 70% of it so far with 3m wrap and it looks amazing!! if or when the wrap comes off and if I like the colour ill probably just cheaply paint it the same...as it will be a toy car after all
annnnd all the doors have had the central locking gutted and manual window winders installed for more RA spec lol, got a local trimmer I know to wrap the lx (blue) manual door trims in black wrinkle vinyl to sorta match the interior...came up pretty damn good!!!
but on with this huge delayed rant....Its been a while!!!!, but yep I'm still alive....cars still progressing (albeit very slowly....though this is a labour of love/bit of fun) and im spending more time in the garage doing the shit that needs to be done to get this "old girl" back on the road. I'm learning heaps (kinda why I got this car) as thanks to my Gen3 Frankenstein machine I was pretty cluey about how to do most of this stuff and had watched it being done.....but...... I had never actually done it myself lol
So up until a few weeks ago I had a garage overflowing with parts, junk, tools, the RS, the half-cut shell, my pet rats etc etc etc. Had barely enough room to move, let alone strip a car hahaha
But I had a week off and got jack of it and got stuck in, took a solid days effort by myself to tidy it all up.
I had to drag the wrx shell up to the road where I got the local scrappers to take it away, organize all the parts into sorted containers (rs bits, wiring looms, wrx parts etc etc) and put all my tools back into their rightful places (its awesome knowing exactly where my tools are again
)
But now I have one helluva tidy garage once more and its much easier to keep it that way!
anyways, now I had space and I could get stuck back in with my free time,
got the 6 speed lifted up and installed the;
- group-n tranny mount
- x-member bushes
- front shifter bush
- shifter linkage bushes
- shifter pivot bushes
Still have the rear shifter bush to install once the 5 speed is removed
but wanted to get all this crap outta the way and tuck the box aside till its time to go in
then I decided whilst the car was nose first in the garage id pull the rear end and freshen it all up....wow what a learning experience!! researched it a bit, though I had a fair idea on what to do and did it all by myself (woulda been much easier with some help though!)
I spent 10hrs in the garage on a 34 degree day replacing everything I could, cleaning bits up and torqueing it all back up properly and I have to say that the back end will be one tight mofo on the road!!
installed;
- Brembos all round with DBA t3 rotors
- project mu hi-temp hand brake pads
- BC coilovers all round
- Hardrace spherical bearing adjustable lateral arms and trailing arms
- Whiteline HD sway bar mounts and Hardrace spherical bearing sway bar links
- 03 STi rear sub frame (solid mounts)
- 03 STi front diff outrigger (t-bar)
- V2 STi RA r160 diff and corresponding shafts
- kartboy rear diff bushes
- kartboy clunk killer bushes
- whiteline sub frame lock bolts (more for sub frame alignment now)
- kartboy rear trailing arm bushes
- whiteline rear toe lockout bolts
And sent the old arms, subframes, disc rotors, rusty exhaust and shitty scraped up x-force muffler to the scrapyard to free up some space
I think that was it, doesn't sound like much when I write it.....but it was a huuugggeee and surprisingly fun day and there isn't much left to upgrade back there anymore......though I will need new axle boots soonish.....I will service them, but they can wait for now lol
Gave everything I could get to a big tidy up and lightly copper slipped nearly all the bolts I could to make this easier later
Now that all the rear was done it was time to spin the car 180 degrees so the nose could point outside to make pulling the engine easier. With the help of my 4 new positioning jacks (thanks Rob!
) I was able to roll the car outside and spin it 180 and roll it back inside in about 10 mins....SO EASY!!! first time I got to see the car in all its matte black glory in the sun aswell....looks awesome!!!!!!!!
Now the car sits with her nose up ready for a new heart, got the coolant drained, fmic pipes removed, headers, turbo, intake and dump removed and decided to call it quits and have a break from the car and my sweltering garage as it was another 35 degree day
So yeah that's where I currently stand, garage is now a lot more empty as I continue to install stuff onto the car and sell or scrap the old bits and I should have the engine and box pulled by next week hopefully
, and hoping to sell it all on quick smart at much reduced prices, and I will continue with vinyl wrapping the rest of my car now that I have good access to it and a tidy space once more
To wrap up this clusterf*#k of rambling (sorry guys lol), I am hoping that early in the new year my "project matte black" RS will be brapbrapbraping her way to MSR for an e85 tune...I see lumpy idle goodness in my future!!!
CAN
NOT
WAIT!!!
