Right.

Rear shifter bush back to the unlifted legacy/lib version. Knob now in a place I can grab and no more banging into the body on gear shift. Reversed the shifter bolt so the head (rather than the nut) is on the left, so it doesn't knock into the body when pushed left (1st/2nd), either.

After looking at other's suggestions on fire extinguisher mounts, I bolted a piece of 1" Al bar stock to the passenger seat mounts and mounted my Aldi 1kg dry unit. Excuse the dirty carpet.

I also wasn't real happy with my previous boost gauge mount, so last week I made a 2-DIN unit, and wired a USB charger socket so I can charge my phone without having to poke a dongle in the ciggy lighter. Hole in the middle was for a 3.5mm phone jack, until I realised my head unit doesn't have an AUX input (doh!).

Opening of the sailing season this Saturday.. so first boat towing exercise with the new engine.

Had to be careful, my trailer tyres are useless in the wet and I had the trailer doing some mad drifts, yo!

big whoosh whoosh sucky sucky noises and a massive boost cut on way home  - Intake pipe after MAF and had come off (the body lift makes it 'not quite' fit right).

Big trip planned for the first week of school hols. I've got about 2500km and heaps of dirt mapped out.

nope - not the fat bit, the two-bend bit betwixt MAF and the under-intake plastic gubbins.

It does seem there's some silicon options around, though:

You'll need the gutter guard stuff to - locusts and grasshoppers galore this time of year round there. You might even need to clean it out every so often.

Have fun man, good to see this working well.

Cheers,

Ben

MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.

Almost took out a roo heading into Broken Hill one evening. The emus are worse - bloody stupid things are guaranteed to run in front of you.

Rain closed a bunch of roads and we had to wait for them to reopen before getting into Mutawintji.

Back on tar on the way home now. Bit of mud on her - it's interesting hitting patches of deep mud at 80k's

Btw - I'm loving the car with this engine in it. Lovely highway cruiser with effortless overtaking. The NA2.5 required careful planning for overtakes. This will sit on the wrong side of the law all day (we've done a couple of 750+ days) and outs just a small nudge to pull past.

Still handles the dirt as before - but with added skids ;)

Nice pic that last one.

Being happy with your repower is great news. So keen for that overtake option that you mentioned.

Tell me Duncan, does your wife/partner go nuts when you stop like that for a pic ???

Mine does a bit.

If my partner was with us, she certainly would be giving me a few odd looks.  That time I guess I had an excuse - I was taking a slash.  Previous dirt road shot was while we collected firewood.

.. but this trip was just me and the kids - she was at work (ha!).

Irony hit us hard this afternoon - 20 minutes from home coming down the M1 at Mooney Mooney bridge, and we had our only breakdown of the whole trip!

No power, lots of whooshing noise and serious black smoke on boost (over fuelling) had us limp up the Southern hill at about 40km/h and pull over.

Fortunately, the symptoms pointed pretty strongly to a boost leak, and I found the primary IC hose clamp at the IC side had popped off the end. 10min later we were off again, and I even managed to avoid burning my hands (I had brought along a fairly comprehensive toolkit, including a long flathead screwdriver and 8mm socket with long extension for the clamps).

Couple more shots from the phone: bug and mud cake this morning as we left Gilgandra.

DSC_0582.jpg

and a snap of our humpy at Mungo.  We gave up on the tarp after this and slept out in the open. Car was just dusty at this stage.

Here was next night at Menindee on the Darling river.
