No problem at all man. Thanks for that. I'll be keeping an eye on both topics.

and tuck that negative battery lead under the bracket so it isn't rubbing.

Remember this post Cam? Well that negative battery lead is held there by some sort of support. It's just a plastic thing that wraps around the lead and is pushed in place on top of the thread. Fairly stable and the negative lead doesn't rub against anything at all.

So after getting a minor service for my car on Thursday at ICHIban consisting of an oil and filter change, upper engine clean and fuel treatment, the boys shed some light on a few problems that they noticed. Nothing major that will prevent me from driving the wagon at the moment, but it will need attention and I'll be going through them as soon as I can afford it. If I can do some of the things at home then I will, otherwise I'm gonna have to get the boys to do the necessary works for me. I also managed to grab an ICHIban sticker to help support 'em.

The list consists of:
  • front timing cover needs resealing
  • front crank seal is weeping oil
  • rocker cover gasket on right-hand side weeping oil (both sides replaced is recommended)
  • oil cooler o-ring weeping oil
  • all tyres have excessive edge wear on inner edges, recommend four new tyres and four wheel alignment
  • brake pads
  • front brake discs warped, recommend replacement discs
I was given some average pricing for all the above to be fixed and it easily surpasses the $1,500 mark.

The sagged right-hand exhaust is due to a kink in the piping, caused by the previous owner and was likely to be a rock, speed hump or even concrete stopper you find in car parks. I have no idea how to fix it at the moment and haven't had a look myself. I don't even know whether it can be fixed without getting new piping... I'll have to take a closer look and see how we go, may be get some pictures so you guys can have a look.

The screws in the roof mounts that are stuck still aren't budging. I've been putting WD40 every morning to see if they loosen and hoping to get into a place called Thread It Right to be taken out. Hopefully all goes well.

I think that just about does it for this update. Keen to hear back from everyone. If you have any tips or if you can recommend any places for the list above to be polished off as soon as possible it'd be very much appreciated.

My tyres alone werent far of the mark. So doesnt surprise me its alot. The only way your gonna save money is DIY. But i guess that isnt for everyone.

Seems like what little leaks you have all subarus develop eventually.

And if I wanna keep the same brand, it's gonna cost a mint. I've currently got Bridgestone Potenza S001's. I'm gonna try and do as much of it myself but the majority will be done by a pro. I'd rather get it done properly and professionally the first time instead of being in and out of places. It'll all just add up.

That's good to know. At least I know it's not because the car's been thrashed (which I doubt anyway, the owner was really nice, mature, etc) or are the consequences of neglect.

And thats a pain that when a mechanic find all these issues and it does cost big goulash but it has to be done and hopefully only once!

As Mark said, a heap of that you could do yourself with basic tools.

The first 3 are big PITA.

I would suggest Ozzy Tyres for getting new rubber and also get some DBA T2 rotors from Vic Performance Parts and QFM or EBC brake pads :)

I am thinking of getting the Bendix Ultra Premium pads for it. Would you or anyone know whether they are the softer compound to give my discs a better life? Or does anyone have anything bad to say against them?

Thanks for the link man. I'll keep a close eye on 'em. Tell me about it, but Ben was fantastic and I appreciate the honesty otherwise it'd go unnoticed. I will slowly slowly get through the list, that's not the problem at all. It's just the money factor for the time-being.

I will do as much of it as I can on my own, but unfortunately the first three to four points I will have to get done for me due to lack of experience, the inability to have room for mistakes and if something was to go wrong, it'd possibly cost me more.

Thanks for the help guys. I will provide an update soon with some pics of my car after a wash, chamois, clay bar, polish and wax treatment this week. ;)

Doesn't dusty mean it's a softer compound and therefore won't screw too much with the disc? Or am I getting the wrong idea? What would you suggest, Mr Brake King?

There not that bad, Im running them all round and while they are on the dusty side, they seem to perform well and not chew through rotors?

They're $72.99 a set at Supercheap Auto. They'll most probably be the ones to go for unless these Hawk Performance Ceramics are a lot better. It'll most probably come down to price for the time-being to be honest.

Thanks for that man. I will most probably give them a round anyway and see how they perform.

Hawk Performance Ceramic.

How much are these worth? I can see them on eBay from the UK for $133.05 plus $66.49 postage...

I just visited their site and see that there is a place called V-Sport Australia that stock them in Arndell Park (near Eastern Creek) which isn't too bad, and Tire Rack stock them too. I just sent Tire Rack an email to get a quote.

Those are ultra premium, not ultimates ;)
I have ultimates as well, I really like them. They are dusty, but they feel awesome as Cam said. Have had them for ~20k kms and will probably get another 10k or so out of them, though to be fair I'm not easy on them, and they've been to the track twice and been set on fire once :P

Ha ha ha, nice. It's getting late, I easily overlooked that. How much would the Ultimates set me back, retail?

Good review is a good review. So far the Bendix are getting some pretty good reviews from you guys.
