if you plan to run 20psi + on the 20G you will want pistons...

google EJ257 piston failure, glass piston ej257.

read on rexnet you will find an abundance of info.

I ran 18psi for a long time on my motor with track days with a very safe tune, however others have had similar levels and blown them very easily.

for the extra $600 on a set of forgies you have a shitload more security and room to move, that way you can max the 20G out run it at its efficiency level (22-23psi) and pump 250kw atw out of it. on a stock 257 thats not a very good idea... even MY08 STi onwards are blowing motors at this level.

its your money mate, but i did a lot of reading before modifying mine and i capped my tune off because any higher and it would of popped.

I will put it to Miles and see what he thinks.. Thanks for the info mate, it is muchly appreciated.
I was quoted another $3500 for forged internals though? Where do you get the $600 from?

So youre not upgrading the TMIC?? Fuel injectors??.....id definently go STi versions of these, and a MUST is to seal your TMIC to the scoop as you will struggle to get the required air through it otherwise

Id do pistons and higher tensile headtuds as a minimum while the engines apart for relatively cheap piece of mind when pushing boost

Also why are you putting in a CAI kit??? at those power levels and if youre not running a FMIC to require it its really just a waste of money?? The stock airbox flows pretty damn good upto 240kwatw??

I am leaning towards keeping the stock turbo and only using the headers and CAI. (Simply for noise)
When I have the money to upgrade to a larger turbo and everything necessary then I will do it then.
I simply cannot afford it especially after spending $10,000 and now about $7k...
I think I'll just be happy to have my car back.

Hahahaa yeah that'd be pretty sick, I ended up going with something else though. :) I am quite happy with it

In other news, I got the car back on the road 2 weeks ago. The work was done by Miles at AMauto up in Noosaville on the Sunshine Coast.
It now has an EJ257 STI engine, using my 2.0L heads off the conversion I did. Everything else is factory in the engine.

Had it dyno tuned the other day, and with a slipping clutch I am happy to say that the car made 159KW at all 4 wheels.
The brand new Clutch Industries clutch that I put in during the conversion will need to be replaced with something more heavy duty in the very near future. It just cannot handle the torque of the new engine.

All in all though I am very pleased with the car at the moment and I hope it stays like this for a while until I can save enough money for a bit more power :)

Now to spend my Sunday afternoon washing it!

Yeah boost comes on so freaking quickly… 1st and 2nd gear have a crazy amount of torque.

I'll try and get down your way for a meet up in the near future.
Last one we had was pretty decent.

Havent posted in here in a while now, but the Outback seems to be running pretty good!

I installed a brand new Exedy Sports Organic clutch today. Took around about 6 hours to complete. And to think that I was going to give it a crack in my driveway without a hoist!!! :/

I have a set of BC BR Coilovers coming from Zach (whenever he decides to either return my texts/messages or they show up??) Will put them in pretty much when they arrive for a bit more low and some front camber adjustment.

In other news I have a massive air leak coming from the flex pipe in the exhaust. Will need to be fixed ASAP as soon as I have funds.

And some one has run into my rear right quarter panel, just behind the fuel flap.. Have been quoted $2380 to fix, as the glass and all the panels have to come out, as well as spot welds and re welding/painting etc. My insurance excess is $1850 so I am thinking it will be a while before it gets fixed.
Adds character I think!

Thinking I might paint the rims a dark blue/black colour and just work on making the car as neat as possible, and look at a respray in the not too distant future.
Other than that I will be saving for a decent tune at MSR or somewhere like that.

Stay tuned!
